External Hard Drive Problems!

I have copied my library to an external 250GB HD and everything is now on the external HD but now there is an ! next to every song in my itunes library and when I double click it says it cannot locate the folder and I have to do it manually. Is there a short cut around this? Have changed the destination of my music folder in itunes advanced preferences but still error message occurs. To map each song in 10,000+ library will drive me crazy. Any help or direction greatly appreciated....

Ok, i don't use iTunes for music (just podcasts) but there's an option to import a folder, could you try that? As in File > Add Folder To Library then just pick the folders of the albums you want...

If you open the library xml file contained in your iTunes music folder I think. Then do a search and replace for C:\your_old_folder and replace it with E:\your_new_folder.

All working now cheers, only problem is that i now have two of every item on my itunes music file, any way of deleting one of them or avoiding duplicates, doing it manually i.e. highlighting every second item but going to be here all day....

Why not delete everything from the library, then rescan all the folders back in? Might take some time but it's a solution...
