Second one is cool, the background works well with the shots.

Nice work. I like the professionalism of the portraits more than the girls :-)
I mean the girls in the photos, not girls in general!!!

second shot is the best (nice tonal range) but the fingers on her right hand are a bit distracting... bit masculine when spread out like that.
I would have put a bit more distance between them and the background if possible.

Last one is the best I think

Three more shots of a different shoot on the same project. Could really have done with a reflector on that 3rd shot. Must invest in some sort of reflector.

I'd pay more attention to the background in 1. The rust splotches growing from her under arm area are not exactly flattering, maybe there's an industrial theme going on that's not made clear, but for a straight portrait it's off-putting.

I wouldn't be caught on her expression either. She looks like she's just been paid a sideways compliment. The left eye being fully hidden is, I guess a question of taste. I'd have it partially visible at least.

While the right arm is fine, the left arm being cut off at the elbow makes it look as though it it continues on at that size, i.e. bicep all the way down. It's recommended (rules eh?) that if you slice a limb in two, you do it mid ways, not at a joint like the elbow or knee.

The background in the next three is also distracting, there's too much going on in the background, too many white splotches, and the brick lines bisecting the models heads is in my eyes a no no.

The left models expression in number three seems forced in contrast to the model on the right. If they weren't so close I'd be tempted to crop her out.

I can't see the exif on all of them but I'd go longer than a 50mm and open up a bit more than f3.5 or f5 like I can see in some of them. If room and/or gear allow of course.

And if anyone is wondering why I'm looking at backgrounds when I could be looking at pretty girls, trust me, there's a difference between looking at a portrait for oggling purposes and appraisal purposes.
    That said, hubba hubba!

mloc am i right in saying you're a UCD student?

If so, is it a UCD related publication your shot'll be in?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,567 ✭✭✭mloc

    great photographs there well done!

as has been pointed out i'd agree that the backgrounds are a tad too sharp.

i'll copy the last one and put some background blur see what it looks like - if you want i'll post the result

    :)

    very nice looking girls too

I love your pictures, Melekalikimaka. Very impressed. The Jana shots are nice, pity her hair is hiding her face though! Good focus and lighting. Didn't see the snaps in the ucd guide??

These girls will make some guy very happy,eh!!
