Do any of the Irish government agencies require security checks or clearances before starting work on confidential data? And are security cleared candidates preferred for those positions? I see it advertised a lot in the UK for MOD, Home Office and HMRC etc., but have never seen an equivalent in Ireland. Any information would be helpful thanks (via PM if necessary).

The CSO asked me to sign a form for them to carry out CRB checks on me, no such form with the revenue commissioners.

FCA, you got a security check. THe builders working in Goverment buildings needed some sort of security clearance.

There's something like a 6 week vetting period before employee can start
    in certain depts/offices.

Especially such offices as Dept of Social Welfare and Children etc.
Places where employees could be privy to sensitive or confidential info.
