    Hi,

I want to build the most silent PC possible.

I probably have a budget of around 2200 but could stretch it to 2500.

Anybody got experience of building a silent pc?

What are you going to use it for?

    Good Question.

Mainly High spec required for gaming.

and also when im not gaming in it will be on pretty much doing heavy duty automated data processing.

You'll get all sorts of specialist stuff there.

The Zalman Reserator 2 is what I'd suggest as it's fanless, supports the CPU, chipset and select GPU's.

On the GPU front only ATI X1k and GeForce 7 cards are supported so if you want all the cooling handled by the one unit then it is limited to those GPU's. What you could do is go Crossfire or SLI or keep the monitor resolution down to a certain level (if your a native resolution person), personally I'd go with an X1950XT card.

Now this is interesting, do you plan on overclocking, and if so how much would you be aiming for? Anyway there's no point in going air cooling with a healthy budget like that. I would not go with a reserator, low speed fans can be very quite. The pump, disks and various GPU/motherboard whines can be far more annoying than fan noise. Back on the watercooling, there is only one line of rads to go for: Thermochill PA series, they are particularly suited to low airflow (and therefore noise) fans. On the pump side of things a variable speed Laing D5 would be basically as silent as you can get, properly mounted on a vibration absorbing gel, it's inaudible. You could consider going diskless too, it would be a major pain to set up I'm sure but it would be one less noise maker. Failing that Samsung's are always a good bet for silent, cool running disks.

Not really though I would not be surprised if such things do exist but you may have to do some searching to find items like that but they may be for specialist environments and have a hefty price tag attached.

The closest thing I know of is media centre style keyboards as some of them are like laptop keyboards and don't make a lot of noise when pressed.
