Buying the above on Thursday, have made up my mind and gotten the money together. Will probably get it in town for conveniences sake. Anything last minute I should know?

that it is a GREAT lens and you won't regret it! Only thing I regret is being so impatient that I bought it so quickly, and then the price dropped :( worth it though, I love mine. Which version did you go for? DO or no DO, that is the question! ;)

    +1

It took me a little getting used to the IS - but it's a cracking lense..

Just one thing - if you're buying it secondhand (which it doesn't sound like you are), be aware of the serial number.. http://www.usa.canon.com/consumer/controller?act=PgComSmModDisplayAct&keycode=2112&fcategoryid=216&modelid=11922

Well, if anything I read before I bought my 70-300 IS, the price over performance of the DO vs. non-DO didn't justify the extra fork out..

Yeah the reviews on B & H reflected that.

Yeah agreed, pretty much every review I read said the same.

Yup - sounds about right.. it will also continue a few seconds afterwards if you don't follow through and take a framed shot.. (i.e. take your finger off the shutter release before you've taken the shot but after you've focused it..)
