I have an 80GB drive in my laptop and just bought a 500GB external drive.

The drive came with no manual so i dont know what im doing.

How do i back up the entire contents of my laptop? Do I need to partition the drive first or anything??

Well, you're external should be picked up as soon as you plug it into your lappytop. From there it's all pretty straight forward as you can just go to:

Start -> Programs -> Accessories -> System Tools -> Backup

From there just choose the destination of whatever the location of yer external.

man as you can tell from my post i am no expert on these things but the box says you can save all sorts of stuff.

I paid just under 150 euro for it in Maplin which im told is a grat price. they have loads of them by the till. Just go to the till and ask for one.

Back on topic. Could i just drag and drop my C drive over????

Go INTO your C: drive and copy what you need over onto the Hard Drive (Music, programs, videos, games, etc). This is what I done cuz I've everything duplicated onto the drive so if my laptop blow ups I don't mind reinstalling Windows, the thing needs a clean anyways!

I'm guessing you're using XP Home cuz Backup aint included with it but you can download it or far superior ones anywhere on the net if you want the whole shabang done.:

    For example:
    http://www.educ.umu.se/~cobian/cobianbackup.htm

I haven't tried but it gets good mentioning.

And Sephiroth_dude, I got my 500GB drive for €179 back in March (which means it's dirt cheap now) from www.Komplett.ie Brilliant prices off these guys!
