  • Closed Accounts Posts: 59 ✭✭shyjoe

well the local folks aint too happy with such a large intake of them.the majority are illegal it seems talking to people in the area.its a joke even if they are legal for a small town

You're going to be called a racist ya know...

I haven't been there in a while, not since last year anyway but it does have a big Brazilian community. I've heard good and bad things about it all, a few little gangs going round causing trouble here n there. I was living in Loughrea up to December and the only problems I ever had with them were that the men tended to cause my wife a bit of grief, they'd often obstruct her and pass dirty remarks when she was on her own....not nice at all.

I found many of them to be alright otherwise, they go on about their business and generally don't bother anyone, its just that a lot of the men don't really know how to treat women (I find the same to be true of Mexicans).

Yup, Gort in Galway-home to the worst Abrakebabra in the country.

Everyone slates abra, but I always found the one in Limerick to be quite decent when compared to the Supermacs a few doors up from it or even McDonalds.

But having eaten in the one in Gort last month... What a dirty dingy sh*t-heap. (the Abra, not Gort) Worst food in history!

Ambiance does a fantastic breakfast by the way... Yum!

So do Gort have a killer soccer team?

I thought this was one of the few succesful examples of integration we had in this country.
I saw a report on some Samba festival on Nationwide a few months ago.
The locals seemed to enjoy it.

But for sure, Gort is a small town and it is a very high concentration of Brazilians in a small area.

I'm dying to know-how good is the Gort soccer team?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 14,575 ✭✭✭✭FlutterinBantam

Most of the immigrants in Gort are employed in the meat industry, and probably work hours that the locals wouldn't do.

There is an issue here though as the pop. of Gort I would guess is around two and half thousand and a large influx of immegrants from the same ethnic background surely skewes the balance built up over the years.

maybe some of the good burghers of that pleasant town will give us a genuine insight on what's happening there.

    Would be interesting.

My sister in law lives in Gort and I've never heard her complaining.

There have been regular media items about the the Brazilian community there. I doubt that such a sizable, visible, well known community would contain any illegal immigrants?

Gort's a lovely town? Just kidding, just kidding. I'd normally be the type of person who encourages ethnic diversity, as my other half is Polish, but we were visiting Galway recently, and on stopping in Gort to buy a present for the person we were staying with, I couldn't believe the amount of non-Galweigans in the town. It was eerie.

just to put Shyjoes comments in context, here are some other quotes:

    http://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/showpost.php?p=53379728
ok shur just let all the scum in from eastern europe we dont have enough of our own.3 of my friends are guards and they tell their sick of the foreign sick now wish they could them on a plane home translators costing huge money and giving free legal aid its crap

    http://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/showpost.php?p=53379492
i had to leave school at an early age mate im catching up on my life now doing english classes again dont knock a guy for trying.if you work your ass off to buy an apartment and the place got over taken with eastern european scum i think it might change you aswell

    http://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/showpost.php?p=53379316
aint a bad person but is anyone else just sick of being nice to them and think they just be stop put on the flow of people coming in for a while?the country hasnt caught up to meet their needs like schools etc another point teachers having to deal with kids with zero english

    http://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/showpost.php?p=53379248
i knwo theres irish scumabgs i mite start another post on that.but the irish have be welcoming to all polish etc.but at least vet them so they hav english,no records,a licence, maybe some skills.in fairness alot of things are put in polish for them so they just laugh at us making it easy for them they dont have to intergrate at all.their doing the leaving in all different languages now how is that going to help the kids?if you want a polish leaving cert paper do it in poland,if your in ireland do it our way.if i moved somewhere id have to do it the local way

    http://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/showpost.php?p=53378899
very messy parties, fights, shouting, damage.dodgy guys hanging round in packs no talking to them no english.their rude ignorant and before u say no english a smile and a hello the world knows

    http://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/showpost.php?p=53378847
now before the p.c crew start plenty of irish scumbags im well aware but is anyone concerned about the amount from all the eastern europeans?considering the ratio in the country.i bought an apartment 3 yrs ago and the block is a ghetto now im in only irish left and its gone unreal rough.guards try their best but i really starting to dislike them even tho i know there is some good eastern europeans i work with rare i know

So, this isn't some regular joe surprised at what he found in Gort, this is a lazy, ignorant racist trying to stir up sh1t. Pity you are not a bit more shy.

I live near Gort and would rarely hear anyone complaining about them. They're very good workers and pretty much keep to themselves (apart from a small few that like to pester girls in the nightclub on a saturday night)

i aint racist.i have mates from all over the world here, their the very small few decent ones.id say 80% of my experiences with non nationals has been bad and i try to really try like them.between irish scum and them the country is getting nasty

yeah, you are. You don't have a clue what's going on in Gort, so you make up stuff like "the locals ain't happy" - how do you know? Most people who know Gort have said that the majority are grand with the situation. It's just that you don't have the mental capacity to understand that most people are not as small-minded as you are.

The one bit of comfort that I get from your posts is knowing that you'll go through life raging against the "foreign scum", with no-one really giving a crap about what you think.

If that does happen, and I really hope it never does, it'll be the fault of people like you.

Did you have any issues with them in Gort?

I'd imagine a good deal of them are illegal, there is a large amount of them and many tend to bring their families over after a few months. The ones I was friendly with had no pps or nuthin.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 15,914 ✭✭✭✭tbh

    ok, lets debate it.

    "The locals are not happy"

How do you know this? In a debate, you need to back up your facts so that they can be established as facts, and not just opinions you are pulling out of your hole. What's the population of Gort? How many did you speak to?

    "The majority are illegal" -

How many non-nationals are there in Gort? How many of those are illegal? You'll understand me questioning you on these central points, as I can see you are not exactly impartial.

So come on, then, debate the point with me, or stfu and piss off back to whatever stone you crawled out from.

talk to the normal working folk of the town.ok how would i get an offical number of legals and i will look into it in the correct way.fair enough if i came across the wrong way i just pointing out the vibe i got there and it aint a good one.i find to hard to believe they are all legal

I used to pass through Gort every week for about 3 years and the Brazilians were best thing about the place. It is a dreary little village that is in bad need of bypassing. I know know a few people from Gort and they all seem happy enough to have the Brazilians there.

But you wanted to debate it so.... how long did you spend there?? I spent a summer there last year and got a good "vibe". So where are the numbers of these illegals.

well the i was with older folk who lived there all their life and the 15 -20 i spoke with felt invaded.so all the peolplem there are legal you think?a 1000 brazilans all just move there in a short time

I don't need to talk to anyone. You're the one presenting opinion as fact. As far as I can tell, if you send home the non-nationals, Gort would dry up and blow away. If you chucked yourself into the Gort river, it wouldn't make any difference to anyone.

you are talking shit. I'll bet I know and am related to a LOT more of the "older folk" in Gort than you claim to have spoken to, and none that I have EVER spoken to have a problem with them. The ones with businesses are very grateful for their custom.

why do you think they moved to Gort of all places? They were RECRUITED.

But you don't really debate Joe. You always come across as xenophobic and a little racist. One polish friend wouldn't mix with others? That's hardly a balanced view.
