New Laptop Advice

    Hello All,

I am getting a new laptop as my masters requires us to have one but they're not specifying any particular one. As I'm now going to have to lug it onto the Luas every day from September, I'm going to trade up to something lighter among other things.

I was wondering if people could recommend a laptop in and around the €1,000mark that is-

    light
    durable
    reliable.

A few friends have also mentioned that the new Windows is not so cool, I'm still on XP and used to it and happy with it. Is there any way of asking to keep that os when I get the new one? Or is it worth getting the new one? Also, I'm half-considering a macbook cos they look so damn cool but I've never really used Apple before. Would it take me ages to get the hang of it and would it be silly to do it while trying to deal with a new course workload where probably most people will be on windows?

I know there're a lot of questions there so thanks in advance,

    Elmo
