    This in todays times ...

Ultimately this is the Government not understanding the market and taking a quick fix that will eventually be bad for consumers. It's an about turn on a previous ruling that indicated that these charges must be separate and transparent to the consumer.

At the moment, Prices quoted by promoters generally include the booking fee but not credit card and other charges. In fairness to most agencies, the surcharges are clearly stated in their advertising but for some reason ignored and ends up being a hot topic on the Joe Duffy Whinge show.

In the last few years, a number of ticket agents have begun to thrive - WAV, Ticketlord, tickets.ie etc. None of them able to handle the volume that Ticketmaster can but could handle many of the shows in the various indoor venues.

The ideal situation would be for promoters to allow a variety of agents sell their tickets. This would, hopefully, lead to some competition in booking fees and the other surcharges that would benefit the consumer. This ain't going to happen if all these charges are buried and not transparent to the consumer.

Why are the Government taking this step backward for the consumer?

The thing that grinds my gears re: Ticketmaster is the booking fee per ticket, not order.

But I only use them directly if a gig is bound to sell out on the day.

this is like the whole "airline tax thing" you know theres gonna be charges added in this day and age,
They should have to list them and show all prices totted up, some just will say 12% or something, you still need to work it out.

doesnt really make a difference though

It might if people are forced to sell at a given price, buying a ticket online on www.tickets.ie is €7.35 cheaper than ticketmaster, I hope they will not be forced to overcharge buy such crazy amounts too.
