Smart Routers

    Hi there

Just moved to a new apartment and have been set up with Smartvision, using an Aolynk DR814 router.
In the old place, I had regular Smart broadband with their *wireless* Aolynk Wdr814g router.

What I want to do is connect the wireless router to the wired one, so I can set up the wireless network again.

The advice I got on the Smart board was to change the wireless IP, so as not to conflict with the wired router, and to disable DHCP on the wireless, then simply connect the LAN ports.

Have done all so, and nothing is happening. I assume that at the very least, if I connect, say Lan 2 to Lan 2, they should light up on their respective routers?

Any help with this would be amazing, tearing my hair out here!

If your wireless router has like 1 "internet" port and 5 regular ports make sure you plug it into one of the regular ports and not the internet port like you would have previously.

On the wireless router, disable DHCP Server, NAT and Firewall [if there is one]

Configure the wireless router [now an accesspoint with switch if you did the above correctly] to get an ip address dynamically [automaticaly].

Connect the wireless and the wired router by cable in a LAN port on both devices. NOT a WAN port.

    It should just work.

If it doesn't work, give the wireless router a static ip on your network. For example, if your wired router is 192.168.1.1, configure your wireless router to be 192.168.1.222. Once it's on the network, configure the wireless.

just back from holidays, with a shiny new crossover cable in tow, and still no joy. followed the above to the letter.

is there any setting on the *wired* router i should be considering?

If i'm not mistaken, both the above are Modem Routers.

Why don't you enter the Username and Password from your DR814 into your WDR814g and plug the phone line straight into it.

Transfer any other settings you need and it should work.

I am on Smart BB and originally had a DR814. I picked up a WDR814G second hand and the original owner had not removed their Username and Password. As soon as I plugged modem in it connected straight away. I then removed their settings and put my own in and it worked without problem.

You should be able to swap them out ok, possibly having to change a setting or two.

turns out the actual lan ports on the wireless were fried.
i'd never had to use them before, but seemingly it's been a common problem with the wireless aolynk.

i went and bought a new belkin one, and it was broken out of the box! argh!

thankfully, it's replacement worked perfectly, no set up required

I'm sure your neighbours appreciate the free internet access you're providing now.
