Ok, this might be a completely easy problem to solve/diagnose but i dont seem to be able to do it.

When i plug my 30d into the computer the computer is recognising it, but the "busy" message is flashing up on the LCD panel and quite litterally not going away (half an hour when i switched it off). This happened to me last night also, but i had another camera handy to swap cards around.

Also when i put the card into a reader the the message is coming up cannot access removable drive due to an I/O error.

Now are these two seperate problems, or is there possibly a problem with the card itself?

    Thanks

Try connecting your cam without the card (using internal memory) and see if you get any luck. That way, you'll know if it's the card or if the problem lies elsewhere.

Hmm seems to connect ok there.
leaves me to thinking that it could be the connection points between the camera and card? (seeing as it worked using the other camera last night?)

It looks more like problem with the memory card.
Do you have another card to give it try both in camera and in reader?

Try formatting your memory card for me (if you can) from your PC. I have a feeling that might work.

If you can't format it from the reader, then the cards had it.

Powercity sell 1GB Pro Duo cards for 30 yoyos though :D

Not on me at the minute, thats why i need this one emptied.
Its strange that it would have worked on another camera last night though if it was a problem with the card?

Yeah, try my advice. It just may work, since sometimes memory cards get corrupted and such.

Still not getting anywhere, waiting for a car/camera/and reader to see whats what.
Cant get through to the card with the reader at all.
I'll let you know how i go!

Ok, things are getting a little wierd now.

Forget about the card reader....its fecked ive tried a couple of cards in it now and im still getting I/O failure...fine.

So its now down to the camera or the card.

First off i tried another card in the camera and it still kept flashing up busy, and wouldnt let me do anything. Onto the next step.

I tried both cards in the other camera, and they both worked perfectly.

(im getting worried at this stage that the camer is fecked..)

Next step, the pictures are safely on the computer now, so stick the problem card, into the problem camera and format, done.
(this is where it gets strange)
I take a quick snap of the missus playing the Wii (always funny!) and connect the camera to the 'puter again.
The Busy signal is flashing up on the LCD panel (still) as i type... BUT i can get into the card and put the files onto my computer using the scanner and camera wizard......

I dont get it, am i going senile, and the busy signal has been flashing up whenever i plug it in since i got the thing?
Or is there some signs of faultiness/damage here and i should get it checked quickly?

N.B it got extremeley wet a few days ago at a football match, could this be part of the problem?

    Damn.

Stupid idea but try a factory reset function if the camera has one. Could've been something that just went wrong with it. If not, I'm afraid the camera seems to have a fault with it. Bring it into repair.

    Hope it's under warranty.

factory reset being like the Clear Settings option?
Done that and its still flashing busy...but as said actually letting me copy the files to the computer now.
i really dont understand, think ill give canon a call in the morning and see what they say.

Its still under warranty, only got it a couple of months ago.
    Thanks for the help Beau

I can't recommend these highly enough:
    http://www.sandisk.com/Products/Catalog(1096)-SanDisk_Ultra_II_SD_Plus_Cards.aspx

You take them out of your camera, and put them straight into your USB drive.
    Simple as that.
    Great stuff.

Hey, I did some googling and came across this.

    and more specifically:
    here.

Seems a guy has had a similiar problem with his 30D.
Try some of the solutions mentioned there if anything grabs you.
