What being a girl got to do with calling you mate ?

I always thought mate was unisex, no? Actually when you think about the word "mate" it could apply in the context as the OP is a girl and if the poster who called her "mate" is male!

And back on-topic: Didn't notice him myself, was too busy cringing at Radcliffe's acting ability.

    Ye are all wrong.

Mate is a british slang word copied by the irish to try and be cool

And I always thought it was only Australians who called each other 'mate'...;)

    And what are Australians really...?

    theyre all wrong about what?
That mate is unisex? in the correct terms as in "he/she is my mate" then it is unisex...
I'll admit it is generally used towards guys though when you call someone mate.

What the bloody hell did the origins of the word have to dfo with it?

Anyway zapp i think your right......i think it was beyond redemption the moment i first replied :)
