I was wondering if its possible to have a happy medium between trying to lose fat with a structured diet and fitness plan and enjoying yourself at the weekends with a meal out and a few pints or is it a case of cold turkey till you meet your goal?

I get hammered 6 nights a week and eat clean for one day. I'm the fittest man around my town.

Hard to tell not knowing your goals. Cold turkey is the quickest route to most fitness and weight loss goals. Reach you goals first then work the pints back in if you still fell like them.

Whats not to believe? He's fit, you want to loose fat. There totally different things. Go cold turkey, surely drinking is not a must at a meal.

I think it really depends on whether your goal is short on long-term tbh. If you have a lot of weight to shift then its probably better to find that happy medium. I mean its one thing putting your life on hold for a couple of months another thing to put your life on hold for a year.
Drinking may not be a must at a meal or on a night out, but you can experience alot of pressure from friends to go on have a few. Now i have two tactics to deal with this (for different groups of friends)

    1. I drive, these days no one will encourage you to drink drive, simply saying i am driving will shut them up
    2. When i am out with friends who are involved in sports, i simply tell them i am of booze for training reasons.

If you are undertaking a lifestyle change in an effort to get fitter and healthier then nights out are part and parcel of the long term goal. Then you need to get a plan together to keep your cheat reasonably healthy. If your out for a meal order a salad. If your out for drinks decide how many you will have before you go out.

I still try to keep my cheats reasonably good quality. Sure a fillet steak may have more calories than a bigmac but the cals in the steak provide your body with a better quality of fuel.

Just my thoughts on it anyways

And every once in a while, head out and dont worry about it.

I don't think going out for a meal and having a few drinks at the weekend would interfer with anyone's goals - unless your an olympic athlete coming up to a major competition.
I doubt there are too many people, even on a fitness board, that don't enjoy a drink and go to restaurants. Of course, common sense applies in that obviously I'm not talking about twenty pints a three course meal of ben and jerrys.

I one hundred percent agree with that. You dont need to put your life on hold. If your training hard three to four days a week i think you can afford a good night out on a Saturday without it having too much of a negative impact on your training.

You have to enjoy yourself in my opinion it cant be all about the gym.
If your training for a particular goal like a first marathon/triathlon or something like that its important to cut down but other than that i say enjoy it.

you can do it easily man.
5 days have to be immaculate though.

normally sunday to thursday are my "good days" and i train and eat really well. thurs, fri and sat nights are usually a write off food and beer wise but i do cardio a lot to shake the body up. its working fine. im under 10% BF, clean about 120ish, and getting faster/more flexible every week...

Okay, i've been pulling 14 hour days, haven't been sleeping well and just got rained on for 30 mins so excuse me if this sounds a little harsh.

I am really, really tired of seeing these threads come from you. You ask for advice, then 2 days later you ask if it's okay to not do it all the time.

Either do what it takes to lose the weight, or be heavier than you are happy with.

It's not that hard to grasp.

Not harsh at all to be honest. This guy posts the same stuff in all the forums.

And yes, I was joking about the drink!! Crazy, eh?

Same guy, believe me. I used to merge the things but quit doing it after a while.

If you want to drink and keep on with a healthy regime, then you CAN NOT drink every weekend. You have to make some sacrifices, and if that means staying in 2 saturdays out of every 3, then so be it - either that or what Dragan said, IMO.
