New House Wishlist

    Evening all.
I remember a post on here a while back that had a lot of people listing their own ideas and wishes for designing a house. I have tried to find it but the search function is down and I can't locate it by trawling through posts.
Has anyone got a link to it or even remember it.
I'm at the early planning stages of a new build and there were a lot of ideas that were really good like laundry chutes and cat V/ VI wiring and central vacuum systems etc.
Anyway if anyone knows where it's gone that would be great. If not and anyone has any ideas that would be great too.
    Cheers

See above, it resurfaced in Gardening and DIY after someone breathed new life into it recently....

Also consider home automation stuff that uses the X10 protocol... Have a look at www.intellihome.be

    baud.

Don't bother with the X10 stuff....

So don't bother with remotely turning on and off various lights when on holidays... don't bother with the ability to remotely set and reset your alarm if you are out or on holidays...

Preset lighting levels and automated lighting for times of days / days of the week / months of the year ?

How is it tacky when you can't even see it in a proper installation ?

Automated homes / Smart homes is the stuff of the future, to say don't bother with it because it will be tacky in a few years time can only be a comment born out of ignorance.... poor show !

I remember a bunch of guys in the very early 90's saying this internet thing would never catch on and never get any further than the universities.... yeah right !

Haven't seen much of the x10 stuff so can't comment but I've installed niko smart wiring systems and if you have the money then I would install it. I can't see how it could look cheap and tacky. One switch to bring ceiling lights and lamps to desired level, close my curtains and also turn on my gas fire. Yeah thats sure looks cheap and tacky.

    Ode To The Motorist

“And my existence, while grotesque and incomprehensible to you, generates funds to the exchequer. You don't want to acknowledge that as truth because, deep down in places you don't talk about at the Green Party, you want me on that road, you need me on that road. We use words like freedom, enjoyment, sport and community. We use these words as the backbone of a life spent instilling those values in our families and loved ones. You use them as a punch line. I have neither the time nor the inclination to explain myself to a man who rises and sleeps under the tax revenue and the very freedom to spend it that I provide, and then questions the manner in which I provide it. I would rather you just said "thank you" and went on your way. Otherwise I suggest you pick up a bus pass and get the ********* ********* off the road”
