    Hi

I was just down with my friend having a look at his pc. It is AWFUL slow! seriously, like really really bad. i was getting frustrated just sitting there. anyway i ran AVG, Spybot S&D and AdAware and a few cookied turned up which i deleted. got rid of a load of unnecessary programmes and transferred all of his music and films to an external HD which i gave him. Ran the anti virus again and nothing turned up but its still incredibly slow. I was at a loss as to why it was so slow. its a decent spec pc, 1gig ram, Sempron 3200+, 128 graphics which isnt really relevant as he just uses it for surfing, movies and music.

long story short have you any suggestions as to why its so slow?

I cut the processes down to 47 from 58 but still no difference!

    argh!!! any ideas guys?

could it just be the natural windows slowdown, requiring the old bi-annual reinstall ??

he only got it back in february! i was thinking that but then he told me it crashed a couple of weeks ago. he said it was slow before that though too and that the crash casued him to loose a few files but its still slow!

Best thing is copy any important files to the external hard-drive and reinstall his operating system from scratch.

Make sure he doesn't have two anti-virus or firewall programs running on his PC. Also this tool will tell us if there's anything causing his slow PC.

Please download the self-extracting version of HijackThis from here:

Double-click the file and install it.

Open HijackThis and click Do a system scan and save a log file. Copy the entire contents of that log and post it here
