Just to clarify. It's not Setanta PPV, it's the Setanta Sports package. Is this not on what used to be Chorus already, or is it a problem only with MMDS?

You won't be able to buy Premiership games on a PPV basis this year - either by individual match or by season ticket, as Sky's PremPlus is no more. This season Setanta have the rights to 79 of the matches, Sky have the rights to the rest. Of the 79 games that Setanta have the rights to, 12 of them will be broadcast on Setanta Ireland, which all Chorus digital customer now have in their basic subscription. The rest will be broadcast on Setanta Sports 1 and/or Setanta Sports 2. These channels are going to form part of a new "Setanta" pack including Celtic TV, Chelsea TV, Rangers TV, NASN and Racing UK. You'll have to subscribe to the pack on a monthly basis, like Sky Sports. I think there's an introductory offer for the first couple of months, but it goes up to €15 a month in October.

That's still a better deal than Sky Sports, which costs €25 a month on Chorus digital for Sky Sports 1,2,3 and Sky Sports Xtra.

RTE and BBC have lost the rights to the Premiership, so you'll have to subscribe to Setanta and/ or Sky Sports in order to watch the Premiership games.

No they haven't. BBC's coverage remains the same, MOTD every weekend.

A friend of mine comfirms that Setanta 1 and Setanta golf have been added to ntl mmds since yesterday. Up to now the only Setanta channel on the mmds platform was Setanta Ireland.

I've just phoned NTL to order a subscription to Setanta Sports. As I live in an MMDS area (Dunboyne, Co.Meath)they tell me it's not available and can't say if it will be!!

Chorus' reply to an email enquiring about Setanta:

Thank you for your email of the 13th of July and your enquiry regarding footage of the upcoming football season. As you are aware, there has been a change this year in how the Premiership games will be broadcast. Sky have done away with their PremPlus pay-per-view and season ticket system of previous years. Also this year, BBC and RTE have lost the rights to broadcast any of the matches, so that the coverage will be divided solely between Sky Sports and Setanta.

Setanta have exclusive rights to 79 of the matches, with the remainder being broadcast on Sky Sports. Of the 79 matches that Setanta will broadcast, 12 of these will go out on the Setanta Ireland channel, which is already part of your basic subscription. The remainder will go out on two of the Setanta premium channels, Setanta Sports 1 and Setanta Sports 2.

We have just launched the Setanta premium pack on our cable systems in Limerick, Cork, Swords and Malahide. Included in the pack are Setanta Sports 1, Setanta Sports 2, Setanta Golf, Chelsea TV, Celtic TV, Rangers TV, NASN and Racing UK. We’ve also just had confirmation that Liverpool TV is to be added to the pack in the autumn. There’s an introductory offer of €12.99 per month on the Setanta premium pack until the 1st of October, when the price will increase to €15 a month. Like the Sky Sports pack, you’ll have to take the Setanta pack for a minimum of one month at a time.

We are waiting on confirmation from our marketing department as to how soon the Setanta premium pack will be available to customers outside of the above mentioned cable areas in Limerick, Cork, Swords and Malahide. We don’t know as yet if we will be able to provide the full pack as listed above to customers in MDS areas, due to capacity constraints. It might be the case that if we cannot provide our MDS customers with the full Setanta premium pack, that the cost of the pack to them might be slightly discounted, but we have no confirmation of this as yet. We are expecting to have all these questions answered in the coming weeks.

The BBC never had Premiership matches to lose.

email from chorus in relation to setanta:

I have confirmation today of the arrangements put in place for our digital MDS customers who wish to avail of the Setanta premium channels.
Setanta Ireland will remain a part of your basic subscription, and Setanta will broadcast a few Premier League matches on this channel over the course of the season. Setanta Sports 1 will carry the vast majority of Setanta’s Premier League coverage.
Up to now, the only premium Setanta channel MDS customers could subscribe to was Setanta Golf, at a cost of €12.99 per month. As of today, Setanta Sports 1 has been added, in time for the Premier League season kick-off on the 11th of August. Setanta Sports 2 will be added to the Setanta pack on Chorus MDS at the end of August.
The cost of the Setanta premium pack is increasing from €12.99 to €15.00 per month, as of the 1st of August.
So in short, you’ll have Setanta Golf, Setanta Sports 1 and Setanta Sports 2 (by the end of August) at a cost of €15.00 per month.
