    From http://www.rte.ie/business/2007/0712/aerlingus.html
Aer Lingus is to begin flying to London's second biggest airport, Gatwick, from the end of October.

The service will operate four times a day, and Aer Lingus says it will include the earliest morning departure of any airline to London Gatwick.

Aer Lingus has introduced 14 new routes so far this year.

They never really left - I've flown Aer Lingus to Gatwick a few times over the last few years - it's just that they where operating under a BA codeshare thing. But they where Aer lingus boeings to be sure.

Does that mean BA are fully withdrawing from the dublin - london market? Used to be all flights to gatwick where fully BA - then they started to share with Aer Lingus so that when you booked online with BA you had to be carefull and check who was operating the flight. I always travelled BA - a bit better in all respects then Aer Lingus.

Nope, they weren't. It's been BA themselves and Ryanair all the way since the late 90's. Heathrow has been a codeshare for years though since BA pulled out.

I don't think BA will withdraw yet - time will tell though as a they will lose some passengers to Aer Lingus.

Pity Aer Lingus are a few years late as i used to fly Dublin to Gatwick almost every weekend for about a year and a half and more often than not id have to go with Ryanair unless they were too expensive and id fly to Bournemouth or to Heathrow with BMI or Aer Lingus but the amount of times ive been delayed with Ryanair in that time is something else, but anyway good news, i prefer Aer Lingus to Ryanair, even though Aer Lingus are not great anyone's better than Ryanair, and im sure this will be a good move for them.

I must have been going to heathrow then - under a BA codeshare. It's good to have a wider choice for Gatwick, but if i'm heading there I will still stick with BA. I think they have the best service now that Aer Lingus is following ryanair down the cattle class route. Gatwick is a much nicer airport then heathrow IMHO.
