Hi. I used to post here a bit, but over the last year i have been busy, due to work etc, and i wondered if anyone had time to answer a noobs questions :o

I used to have a Nikon D-50 with all the trimmings and extras, but due to personal circumstances, i was forced ( sadly ) to sell it. Ive kept my sincere interest in photography, but minus a camera. That is, untill i recieved last week a present of a Konica Minolta Dimage Z2. I know its not the best camera for my interests, but to be quite honest, i cant afford a penny on another camera right now.

I basicly wanted to know wheres the best place to start back in to photography, where can i get feedback etc, best online storage for photos( Flikr? ), best software for editing, if anyone can give me some tips on getting set up again, id really appriciate it.

Thanks for any advice you can give me.

    .

First off, welcome back!! Secondly, sorry to hear that you had to sell your gear and start over, but hey, its a good way to learn new stuff!

I'd say get a Flickr account, good for storing and good for feedback. Posting on here will help as well, its always good to get feedback and comments, motivates you to learn and improve. Thats what i find anyway. Flickr will be a good starting point because you'll already have a load of contacts from here (when you post your link) and most people give contructive criticism which can be very beneficial.

All the best with it, and great that you are getting back into it!

Just a quick update, got a flikr account, http://www.flickr.com/photos/paraicevans and after taking a hundred pics today at bray festival, i managed to keep only a few, because the rest were..well, terrible :o and advice and criticism is always welcome, hoping to have more pics up soon.

Always a pain having to build your gear base up from scratch. But you can also think of it as an opportunity to buy Canon ;)

Welcome back and lets hope your next foray into the money pit we call photography ends up better!

Jaysus ... after the post in ArtStaars thread I almost felt obliged to post a welcome ... but to be honest had I not been severely hung over Thursday (after my own 40th bithday drinks the day before) I'd probably have seen and posted then ... despite the fact you are apparently not a moderatly attractive female as someone else put it :p

How much you paying your publicist anyway ?

... Welcome to the bunch of misfits that is boards ...

If we have not scared you away with all our rantings and ravings then a good place to learn is at the group meets and occasional living room Photoshop CS3 sessions and my place and DarrenG's ... you are welcome to come along ... keep your eye out for group meet posts ... as regards learning well the best way is practice practice practice ... and then more practice ... plus a copy of Michael Landford's "Basic Photography" for technical stuff and a copy Google to look for images to inspire you ...

If you want fair critique and not comments like this -
I'm trying to learn the lesson that if you have nothing good to say, then say then nothing.
But I'm not learning it well.
Give a thousand monkeys thousand cameras....

Then I'd recommend posting in Cafe on flickr ... you get constructive critique there ... I'd be happy to send you an invite to join Cafe ... just add me to your flickr contacts list so I can ...

Like your flickr ... good start ... keep 'em coming!

Get out and take photographs. It seems obvious, but there it is - just get out and shoot. From there you'll be able to see where your restrictions lie.
You'll see what you're good at, and you'll see what you're crap at. :)
    Learn to self-edit.
I've taugh myself to to that, perhaps a bit too much, though.
    Then again, I'm always learning.
