So basically I'm looking to get a bass to mess around on, learn some beginner songs and maybe take lessons if I enjoy it. I've singled out these two

    Yamaha RBX170

    ESP LTD B-50

They both seem similar enough to me, and I am looking for opinions from anyone who has played either one. Are there better basses for beginners out there? (I can't go too far above €200)

I'd go for the Yamaha. I've played my friends one and I think they have a good bright sound.
I'm not sure about that ESP as I only have a B-304, which I find to sound dull and overly bass driven.
Depends what style music you're playing.

I'd assume they both have the same feel to them.
You're best bet is to try them both out as personal preference is the decider.

    defo go for the yamaha.

i got one when i first started out and i still find myself going back to in now and again. really nice feel to them even tho theyre not expensive instruments.

i went for the rbx 270 which was very good for learning on.

Cant beat yamaha when it comes to entry and some higher level guitars, i kid you not most underrated company out there. Plus i know for a fact that that bass is indestructable

I have 2 freinds who both treated the same bass(one bought it off the other) like **** over a 4 year period, they literally started jumping on the neck and it wouldnt break. The only thing that went was one of the machine heads and the input jack. ****ING NUTS. Besides that it has a lovely warm tone off it.

i started off on a b50 and even tho i've got a g&l l2000 there's still great feel off it. it's very light, well balanced, and great for learnin the oul slap an pop stuff.:D i'd personally go for the mat colour, i think it looks ever so slightly better

Go For the Yamaha, like what was said above Yamaha are a hugely underated company for both guitars and Basses, My friend has had 2 Ibanez Basses nd sold both of them nd kept his Yamaha RBX nd he still prefers it to the other two Basses he had
