speakers but no amp (Sony) - advice pls

Hi I've just been given sony surround sound speakers and sub woofer (ss ws501) comprising of five speakers and a subwoofer, but crucially, no amp. I have a very old Aiwa amp but I don't think the speakers will connect to it? Do I have to buy a sony amp, and if so where and how much should it be, or are there any other options.. Obviously I'm not too knowledgeable about these things

Not sure if these are part of a speaker system that came with an amp or not, you will need an AV amp, then you can connect the speakers to the 5.1 posts on the back of the amp, hook up a dvd player with an Optical or Co-Axial lead and you'll get 5.1 surround sound, But this depends on the Speakers, if you could post a pic or ask the guy u got them from what the full system code is that might help.

Did the speaker's you get have rectangular colour coded connections?

I have the same problem,
i have this speakers from a friend, but there´s no power suply or places to conect the little speakers to the wofer, the only connection is from the wofer to ?? (a little pink jack with left and right chanels).
also i didn´t find any manuals or info about this on google.
