    I will
    Very choppy and needs work
But I suppose this is only the first screenshot

Well they will be a screening of the game tonight, so there should be more pics floating around tomorrow. And we will finally get to see it in action. As far as I know its still a long ways from release so hopefully they will clean up the graphics a bit before its out.

But I thought that video a few years back was in-game!?

Ah, it looks very poor for a game that's been in development for so long. But Sony still have time to fix it up I suppose.

Very poor? It's at least comparable to some screenshots of Call of Duty 4 (i.e. as far as the quality of the enemy soldier goes), which has a lot of people salivating over it, in motion at least.

The problem with this screenshot is..it shows practically nothing. I don't think a lone enemy soldier in a small dark room is the best showcase for the game. I'm sure we'll see more media tomorrow, that will probably do a better job of showing it off.

The note on gameplay is interesting, at least it sounds like they're trying to do something a little different. How it all comes together, I don't know..Guerrilla have a mixed record. But apparently the press will get to play the game tonight, so we should hear all about it.

That screenshot shows nothing. It reminds me of the very selectively chosen screenshots last year ( http://www.ukresistance.co.uk/2006/03/ps3-lie-watch-evidence-updated.html ) that were used to 'prove' that Motorstorm was rubbish and nothing like the promo video - in the end the actual game was pretty damn close to it.

I'm still completely confused by the Killzone hype though. The first one was bog standard and there's tons of other PS3 games I care so much more about.

First preview..I can't believe it, but they actually went ahead and did a realtime version of the opening of the CG trailer :D How brave is that..

No new media yet, but soon! And it sounds awesome!

    http://uk.ps3.ign.com/articles/803/803129p1.html
Indeed, it's quickly apparent that Guerilla has come much closer to the original trailer than most anyone thought possible. It's not 100% identical to be sure, but there are times (quite often) when it's really, really damn close.

edit - there'll be a trailer on the PS Store at 11pm tonight (irish time).

Sounds good, can't wait to see that trailer. This game seems to be living up to the hype, so Halo might have some tough competition this year.

Well, Killzone isn't coming out until next year :p

Impressive ... looks almost as good as the pre-rendered video from 2005 ... still very gray though, why is the future always gray ... why not, i don't know, purple?

probably something to do with the panning of the purplish future in highlander 2 the quickening...

Not bad......excellent effort from the devs..
Just hope the final game will be fun to play........Sony really needed this to be an impressive showing, purely for PR reasons..
And on the evidence of the newly released Halo3 SP video, they've certainly shown something much more "next-gen" look-wise in comparison......even if it won't show up until next year..

GameTrailers has a HD version up:

Some screens I took, just from the beginning:

The colours are a bit washed out compared to the direct feed screenshots, but still..

Look at the shadow it's terribly pixellated.

Apart from that the trailer did look quite promising, going to watch the HD one now.

One thing ive noticed in ALOT of next gen games tho, pixellated shadows are the norm. Gears has some terrible looking pixellated shadowing

I think anyone who denies that it looks wonderful is looking through fanboy tinted sunglasses - the lightning effects in particular looked stunning to me. And pixellated graphics are hardly going to be noticable in the heat of gameplay, even if they do seem obvious in screenshots.
HOWEVER, the gameplay looks disapointingly mundane. Another futuristic / macho FPS? Hmm...
It certainly could set a new graphical benchmark though...

That's my gut feeling too, I have no doubt the game will look amazing, but deep down I get this feeling it's going to be a very pretty but very forgettable game. I hope my gut is wrong. My gut thinks the same thing about Crysis.

the reason is that instead of taking up valuable resources by AAing the shadows, you can re-route those resources to something else, like having an extra lump of A.I. running around the place. especially given shadows are barely noticable in the game. you only notice they're pixellated in screen caps

What's the release date of Killzone 2? I remember them showing a similar trailer a few years ago when Microsoft announced the 360.
Hopefully this isn't just Sony doing more hype like it was back then.

The release date is 2008, early 2008 I think.

The difference between this and then, is that this is an actual game now, that was purely a CG movie.

Gameplay-wise, the jury is out. I also hope there's a great game to match the graphics. The weather stuff at least sounds a little different, and it generally looks very fast and intense.

Here's some more blogger impressions..they saw a 15 minute playthrough of a level:
The environment is as much your enemy as the Helghast are in Killzone 2, and as such, the sky we saw was practically a fully realized character in and of itself. Clouds boiled and rolled through the sky, swirling black masses broken up only by flashes of lightning. It was actually more intimidating than the Helghast soldiers that popped up, asking to be shot with either a machine gun or a rocket launcher, the two weapons we saw.

Killzone 2 is loud, dirty, and violently elegant. If you have a PS3, you're going to want this game. If you don't have a PS3...you might have to figure out how you're going to get one.

    http://blog.wired.com/games/2007/07/killzone-2-prev.html
After what we thought was a short trailer, the game dropped straight into actual, live gameplay. And I do mean live, the game was actually being played by one of the developers as we watched.

The developer proceeded to play through an entire level of the game as we looked on in stunned silence. There was a lot to take in during the lengthy gameplay session. First, the game appears to not feature a HUD, in fact the only time I saw anything on the screen that was hud like was when the developer fired or switched weapons.
I think Killzone 2 is probably the most impressive game I've seen so far at E3. Granted it's early in the show, but I think the game has a good chance to retaining that title.

Choppy gfx i still think, and the fire effects were pretty poor. I look at that then at games like assasins creed and crysis and theres no comparrison graphicly. Still though if it plays good who cares.

The trailer looks fantastic. I have to agree with the others and say that it seems fairly standard in terms of gameplay, but it's far too early to tell. The screenshots don't do the game justice, it's much more impressive when it's moving.

the game isn't out until next year, so they've plenty of time to sort out fire and whatnot.

Looks very impressive alright but I thought Killzone 1 looked the absolute bomb. It turned out to be quite average on the gameplay front. The graphical style looks quite similar to Gears of War to me for some reason - just considerably souped up of course.

Actually it's because of how the shadow volumes are constructed. Noise is used and built up in layers. Using a low amount of samples will create horrible shadows. John Carmack was experimenting with 16 samples up to 64 samples in order to reduce this for his new engine.

First hands-on impressions. No one outside of Sony sofar has played it except for Newsweek.

    http://blog.newsweek.com/blogs/levelup/archive/2007/07/12/world-exclusive-first-killzone-2-hands-on.aspx
Nevertheless, we were thoroughly impressed with our single-player hands-on time with Killzone, particularly the first-person cover mechanic, which we provides an excellent tactical option for more deliberate gamers like ourselves, who prefer to hang back rather than rush ahead. If the company continues to design enemy encounters around the optional use of cover, it bodes well for Killzone 2's future depth and replayability.

They go into detail on various things, particularly the new first person cover mechanic, which they think may well end up being borrowed by lots of other games in the future. Their only noteworthy reservation from their time with it is that the recoil on the gun - the realism of it - may put off some players who want something a little more forgiving. But, of course, there's always time to tweak that.

They also have some general info, scenario, technical stuff in this article:

    http://blog.newsweek.com/blogs/levelup/archive/2007/07/12/world-exclusive-expanded-details-on-killzone-2.aspx

Both articles go into quite some detail, and are well worth a read.
