How loose do you play

Just out of curiosity is anyone on this forum playing over 40% of hands on 6 max NL ring tables. Is anyone looser than that, like say between 50 and 75%?

I'm losing all my money to these players on iPoker at the moment and I can't figure out how they're doing it.

What level are you playing now?

    I can play anything from 20% - 35% profitably at .50/1. At 1/2 and I need to be between 20 - 27 to have a chance.

    $1-$2.

Every time I move to a new site I start well then my profit graph starts looking like a shot put throw. It's the super super aggressive players I have a problem with. I don't understand how they can be profitable players but so many of them seem to be sitting with 3 or 4 buys-ins on multiple tables.

When I was on GJP i used to play loose enough by most multitabling standards, I had a 33% and had a BB/100 of 3.65, now I have just moved skin and have made an effort to tighen up. I am now at 27% and it seems to have affected my game because I now have a BB/100 of 0.04.

Both taken from 0.5/1 at 6max

    So loose is better!!

the main reason i don't play online - is due to my "lossness" - for example, for 2 hours there the other nite in a live cash game in fitz i play everyhand to c the flop.... for this reason i am quitting cash games....

I play very loose short-handed. I don't have my actual stats but the aggression factor goes way up. I'm not surprised that these are the guys killing the short-handed tables. If you're losing to them you're probably waiting for too strong a hand before making a stand, or you're letting them make the big pressure bets rather than getting in there first?

I think it's very hard to play against a very loose-aggressive player short-handed, it suits them better than full ring games.

    Call more?
I know it's supposed to be the way to play against loose players is to go passive and call more but it doesn't work for me. You never find out where you are in the hand. I think you have to stand up against these guys or they just steamroller the table.

So let's say you're playing stacks of 100 each and you have 99 on the button. The LAG raises from the CO to 7 and you reraise to 25. Now if he pushes he's made the pressure bet on you and forced you to fold or make a very uncomfortable call.

So in this case I think you have to make some plays that might not be regarded as optimal in other circumstances, e.g. He raises to 7, you make a massive overbet of 50 or more. This puts the pressure back on him and forces him to be the one either folding or making the uncomfortable call. Alternatively you can call the 7, wait for him to bet 20 or so on the flop, and push regardless of what's on the board.

My examples are probably arguable but the point is that you want to be the one making the other person make a decision for all their chips, not the other way around. I don't think playing passive is a winning strategy against these guys. They don't like to be played back at. I know that when I'm playing LAG on a short-handed table, the guys who I know are liable to set me all in with a wider range of hands are the ones I will back off from.

Alternatively you can leave the table...

I am playing 24/15. I know my sample size isn't big enough and I tend to over- react to bad runs, but **** me the players on iPoker has gotten hyper aggressive of late. Not unusual to see 2 or 3 players are your table with stats of around 60/20.

No, thats terrible. Your minimising the amount you are winning with your dominating hand. You want him to be making plays at you, thats good for you. If you three bet here with your nines, you do it becuase you crush his calling range or for other reasons. If you raise to 50, you are going to be destroyed by them becuase they will fold too much of their range.

Your edge against these guys should be huge, becuase you have far better starting hand requirements and usually they are far too aggressive post flop, making bets which they are not sure if they are bluffs or value bets so call and let them take the lead is by far the most profitable play with pretty much every hand. Dont fight fire with fire, playing passively is fine but dont miss value bets on the river. But some of these players are too passive post flop, so you just value bet the crap out of them.

These guys are not good hyper agressive players, they are terrible, terrible players who you want in your game as much as possible and they will not be winners. How anyone is complaining that guys are getting into hands against them with j6o etc is beyond me.

    I agree.

As for my "looseness", 15/10 over the last 30K. Realise I'll have to open my range when moving up but for the time being, it's winning me mula.

anyone playing that loose sucks and will lose. if fish are deep it's usually cause people don't adjust against them, and pay them off with their stack when the fish hits huge disguised hands with 63o vs their op or w/e.

edit, the loosest I ever play is about 33/22-26 if i'm on a table full of terrible players.

    I'm nowhere near that loose

    25/20 at 50NLH
    22/17 at 100 NLH

rb_ie probably has the right idea

should u not play tighter you higher u play? since at lower levels the players are worse and the games far more passive?

I would definitely agree with that, but I wouldn't play as tight as 15VPIP higher up as your range is pretty well defined. At lower levels better implied odds allow looser play

I agree with this, at higher levels, playing 15/10 is somewhat transparent, hence why I said I felt I needed to open my ranges.

yeah but everyone sucks at 50nl so you should play more hands against them.

I find the same on i-poker at the min... there was a 55% player at my table last night and he had 300bb's and 500 when I left him... I waited for a hand to 3 bet him with and got it in with my QQ against his AJ... of course i was no good.... variance

But I do see these guys with big stacks and I often wonder how as they are soooo soooo baaaadddd....

In answer to your original Q I'm playing 24/12 at the min and find it profitable but normally play 26/16 or so...

I used to play 30%+ and was a loosing fish!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,141 ✭✭✭ocallagh

High variance of course results in large stacks. A large stack does not indicate a winner though. tymuppet regularly had 3k+ at 2/4 but I've never seen someone reload as much. sikes post has some excellent points in it. Playing passive and value betting is the only way to combat.
