[iPod] won't shut down

I haven't used my nano for about 6 months. Went to update it the other day and of course it was dead. Plugged it in and got the folder with an exclamation mark in the display. Re-set it and charged it. I now have in the display: Disk Mode, OK to disconnect and a large tick. Trouble is when I unplug it this message won't go away. It just won't turn off. Re-setting it doesn't work. When I go into iTunes I can see the contents and it will update for me but I can't turn it off or on. If I let the battery run out I get the same message when I plug it in again.

Anyone any ideas? It's out of guarantee so can't send it back.

Is it not something like holding down the play button on the dial dial to shut it off? Im probably wrong.

Anyway garantee or warranty does not affect your statutory rights and they say an item should be warranted for 6 years. You may have to fight it in the small claims court but that only costs about €15 online.

search boards as this comes up daily

Try this link to the iPod doctor,

    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=61705

or Google "iPod won't turn off"

    Regards

Think when you get that exclamation mark and folder, you need to do a restore rather than a reset. This is done via the Ipod Updater software on your PC/Mac, not through iTunes. Doing a restore means losing all your data off the iPod but you'll get it back once it's sync-ed with iTunes afterwards.

Thanks for the help. I've managed to shut it down now but I'm still getting the folder with the exclamation mark. I'll try restoring it later on. I'm not bothered about getting rid of the music on it as I want to use it with Media Monkey instead of iTunes anyway. I have 2 other iPods and I've salvaged the music from them.
