I have no personal experience of the Trooper myself but I have heard from a few people that they can give trouble especially the 3.1 litre TD version.

I take it that it is a commercial 4x4 you are looking for then?

The Mitsubishi Pajero Sport might be worth a look at:

Maybe you want something a bit bigger and more rugged:

If you are involved in landscaping maybe a crew cab with a flat bed 4x4 might suit your needs better:

THIS might also fit the bill ...it's 4WD as well.

Yep, I bought an identical model - Pathfinder Kingcab - a few weeks ago!

I'm very happy with the way it drives. It handles better than other pick-ups I drove - Mazda B-series, Mitsubishi L200 etc. It doesn't lean as much and has good grip. The Mazda in particular just drifted over the white line even though it had good tyres suitable for the road. It's also quite lively - no problem overtaking or pulling out from a junction.

The Kingcab makes it MUCH more convenient than a conventional single-cab which has zero storage space for the odds-and-ends I end up carrying around.

Downsides? Like all pick-ups it's bouncy as hell when pressing on on a country road. A tractor-weight or sandbag is said to allieviate this. This should also help a slight tendancy to spin it's rear wheels when pulling away on a slippery surface (a junction for example).

Don't touch the Trooper. Go for a Landcruiser, you may have to go back in years and up in miles, but it's worth it.

as regards a trooper go for a 3.1 turbo diesel and not the later 3.0. these 3.0l has alot more electrical sensors that had a tendancy to go very wrong, the injector pump in particular was always a problem. For rugged reliable performance get a toyota mitsubishi, or any other jap.

The 3.1 Isuzu will still have an agricultural feel to it. The interior in that thing must be from the sixties.
