ERP systems - Performance monitoring

We are using Navision with a SQL database on a IBM 3.66ghz Xeon with 16GB of ram. The server is connected to our SAN via fibre.

We have up to 50 users logged into Navision at any one time. Performance is up and down. The RAM is not the cause and the CPU is not maxed out. I doubt it's the fibre link but i'm not ruling out.

I need to get to the problem of these issues. Is there software out there specifically for this purpose?

What ERP system do you use actually?

Performance Monitor. Check mem pages/sec or average disk wait time. There are several SQL options as well, but I'm not familiar with them. Check the hardware performance first and rule that out before moving to software/SQL issues anyway.

What version of Navision are you running?
Check how much each users profile is using when logged in, we've had performance issue where a user has a profile of over 4gb...not good!

Yes we do. Thanks very much, you obviously know the software very well

Our users connect to a navision server and logins are handled through AD. They don't have profiles.

GaRtH_V: Yes we can see our users and cpu time they are taking up in database information through a client. But they don't have there own space or anything....4GB????

    How do you mean...his job??

matt-dublin - I'm going to look into that in the next few days or so as I've got myself a SQL admins books. I do know that the database is very large alright so we should be able to archive some stuff.
