I agree. I stayed at the JB in '98, top class hotel.

Thanks guys. The price was excluding breakfast so we are thinking of going with the better jumeriah hotel called Al qsar, Its more exclusive and abit more expensive but i think its worth it and it includes breakfast so no more hassle.and you can be picked up in a bentley which i would really consider only approx 120 euro for a trip from airport :)

    drdre ,

When I was last In Dubai in march I found the Jumeirah Beach Hotel to be now a little too family orientated to have that ultimate relaxing holiday and I found It didnt live up to the majority of the rest of 5 star beach front hotels , The Al Qasr that you mention is excellent but slightly sedate but it is in the excellent Madinat Jumeirah Complex , which is a completly different world of its own - Hoas it own souk , amny restaraunts and bars and the whole complex is set on canals which you can take a boatride to get to each diff area( Check google Images or flickr for some pics ) Of all the hotels in that complex personally I would say that the Mina A Salam would be my choice .

I would also reccomend the Hilton Jumeirah Beach , Habtoor Grand , any of the Le Meriden hotels all of which had a few deals on offer for sept

Just on another note some of your dates overlap with Ramadan so any eating or drinking (incl alcohol) must be done at your hotel and the eating areas are usually sheilded off from public / visitors in respect for the local Islamic Tradition

Indeed the Jumeirah Beach Hotel is a beautiful hotel for sure, check out the Cocktail and Champagne Bar on the 24th floor for some stunning views across the city
Step into the elegant tempo of Uptown; a stylish bar on the 24th floor that showcases spectacular views of Dubai's skyline and there are endless possibilities for you to experience fantastic combination of flavours in any cocktail or mocktail that you order.

Guests now welcome the new interiors of the bar and enjoy the enviable setting of Dubai's only sun-splashed terrace bar by day and moonlit terrace bar by night, offering spanning views of the Arabian Gulf and the distant city skyline.

I would recommend the Burj Al Arab but that's probably out of most peoples price range, do make a reservation there though for afternoon tea or dinner, it's very expensive as you would expect, but how many times are you going to get to go inside the worlds best Hotel, it's simply stunning,(you need to dress up as well, strictly no beachwear/sportswear)

As Jumbo said Madinat Jumeirah Hotel is absolutely stunning as well, definitely worth a visit, amazing old style Arabian type architecture.

Don't forget to pay a visit to my mates Bar The Dubliners @ Le Meridien Hotel Airport Road, best Irish bar in Dubai. you'll be well looked after.

Dubai rules, all being well ill be back there this coming xmas again

Here is a photo i took from the http://www.burj-al-arab.com/dining/skyview_bar/
    Skyview Bar

Suspended 200 metres above sea level, spectacular views are guaranteed.

This stylish bar is located adjacent to the renowned Al Muntaha restaurant and provides a sophisticated setting with scenic window.

This is a wonderful location for afternoon tea, pre- and post-dinner drinks that are served within an ambience of luxury and comfort.
    TAILORMADE COCKTAILS BY THE MIXOLOGIST
    Skyview Bar

Mixology is a modern and unique style of bartending and a relatively new concept with the theory that the correct mixing of liquid ingredients can form a totally balanced drink.

Approached in a very scientific way, a mixologist uses experience, knowledge and understanding of products as well as interpreting guest tastes and requirements to create a drink that excels guest's expectations in both taste and presentation.

The Mixology trolley is a fully functional mobile bar which glides from table to table as a team of trained mixologists concoct tailor-made cocktails for guests.

The mixologist asks a sequence of questions to establish the guest's tastes and will then make a recommendation based on their excellent knowledge. As each guest is different, so will the cocktails.

Each guest can give their cocktail a name and the mixologist can note down the ingredients so the guest can take it away with them to enjoy all over the world.

best Hotel in the world, anyone who goes to Dubai needs to go to this place, the cocktails and food are out of this world:cool:

This is an incredible shopping experience, once your inside this amazing place it's so difficult to leave (and not to spend money) this is the best shopping plaza ive ever seen, doubt we'll ever get anything remotely like this here (or even in Europe for that matter)where else would can you go for a meal, go to the cinema, go shopping AND GO SKIING all under one roof, a must visit in Dubai.

The http://www.dubaigoldsouk.com/ is also a must visit, banter with them and you'll get some amazing stuff at a fraction of the price you pay here(beware of fake high class watches, although good fakes)

http://www.jumeirahemiratestowers.com/ is another must visit as well.

Any more info let me know.;)

    drdre ,
sounds like you have come up with a great package for a great price ! enjoy ! ,

For shopping besides the Souk Madinat Jumeirah which is in your hotel complex I go with what jonny68 said ,The Mall of the Emirates is execllect ( Largest Shopping centre ouside North America )

Another new large mall which is great is the Ibn Battuta

Or if you have been visitng Dubai City Centre ( Deira / Bur Dubai ) try the Burjuman Mall

For Electronics ( In most shoppping centres you will find Jackys or Jumbos and for Cameras Grand Stores ( I have been told to avoid the smaller electroics shops on " Computer Street " ( Khalid Ibn Waleed Street in Bur Dubai )

Just one more thing if you are going to Tea / Drinks in the Burj Al Arab try to book it now !! so yop wount be dissapointed when you get there !!

Just looking for someone's advice or past experieces!

I'm considering going to Dubai in September, however there is one little problem. The only dates which suit us to go overlap with Ramadan by two days. So we're planning to leave Dubai on 14 September and Ramadan starts sunset of 12 September. Has anyone been to Dubai before during this time period. Any advice to lend?

The hotel we are looking has a private beach but do we still have to follow local customs at the private beach/resort or is it only when we are outside the walls of the resort?

    Thanks for any help provided!

Best to try not to go during ramadan, however on the plus side hotel prices and flights drop by up to 70% in some cases.

Back from Dubai around a month now and had an unbelievable time.

The madinat is a must visit place i would suggest you go there one night for dinner and a few drinks afterwards it's amazing. We ate at the Left Bank it hink it was called Trader Vicks is also right beside it.

The Best restaraunt we ate at during our time over there was a place called Bice an italian restaraunt within the Hilton hotel it was the nicest meal i have ever had in my life. You would have to book it in advance but if you buy an information book over there i think it might have been called the explorer it has most of the restaraunt numbers in it.
