Anyone remember Super channel. Im almost sure it came out at the same time as Sky in the late 80's. I remember sitting up watching this channel because there might be some skin showing.

I remember that there was never anything good on it. Then NBC bought it and it got worse.

Do you remember a channel called Lifestyle? They used to have some little guy who's name escapes me as a continuity presenter. I used to watch it for all the imported American gameshows like, Tic Tac Toe, The Jokers Wild, Classic Concentration and The Price is Right.

I remember it, it came out at the same time as Sky. We couldn't get cable at home, but I did 2 weeks work experience at my local hospital in 1988 and there was cable TV there. It felt like pure luxury looking at these channels instead of the usual 6 we got at home - these looked far superior.

Myself and my friend used to call it "NBC Stupid Channel" ;)

I remember staying up really late to watch a programme I saw in the TV listings called "Der Hot Bird Club"

It turned out to just be a bunch of fat german blokes talking about satellites. Worst **** ever!

Super Channel was actually pretty cool when it first opened... long before all the NBC crap.

It used to show Doctor Who and Blakes 7... and it had some brilliant cartoons such as Robotech, Inhumanoids and Star Fleet which was Japan's answer to the Thunderbirds.

Haha! I would have known exactly what it was, but I guess I'm that way inclined. (no pun intended...)

Ah yes... Captain Power and the Soldiers of the Future... That was a brilliant show.

It was made by the same guy who made Babylon 5.

Used to love this show for the cartoons and the 'Doctor Who' repeats - my Doctor Who love comes, in a large part, from that. It also brought me 'Robotech'.

Anyone else remember that tech. program it had on when it became MSNBC Super Channel? It had an animated character called Dev Null (only got that years later) and was hosted by Soledad O'Brien. Trinity's Netsoc society flew her over for a talk a few years ago.

Yeah, 'twas a great channel for music.
I remember a show called "Wanted" it was on every day, where a band/singer would present a show of there favourite music videos.
Was also great for showing footage of live gigs, I remember them showing Rock in Rio from Brazil, think it was 1990.

I'm not entirely sure. Music Box launched as a separate channel in 1984, but Super launched on their satellite transponder in January 1987. At that stage Music Box became a slot on Super. I don't think they were the same entity.

That would be David Hamilton - did he wear a dodgy syrup back in the day? His new one looks a little better. http://www.davidhamilton.biz/

Ah, good old Lifestyle. Who could ever forget the Lifestyle Satellite Jukebox, eh? Where they'd play 'Eurotrash'-style music videos featuring naked women singing crappy, europop songs!* :D It was always a great channel for us young adolescent fellas to stay up watching in order to catch a glimpse of some euro nudiness! ;):D

*do a Google or YouTube search for 'Hello' by Twinkle for a good example of what they used to show on Satellite Jukebox. *warning: NSFW!*

    Super channel was ****!
But it will always hold a place in my heart for as a 12yr old boy, i saw a late night 'blue movie' on it called 'french quarter', wherein i saw my first ever bit of lesboidal erotica. I swear to god my face was actually like -->
Thank you super channel, for inspiring my 12yr old **** fantasies.

I was just about to ask if anyone remembered super channel.

My memories at home when we had cable was it was tuned into
channel 7 on everyones TV's by default. I remember a black background
with a cool logo. I don't remember any bad things about the channell
but don't remember what was on it. When Sky came along it
replaced super channel and that was the button 7 channel.

I liked Robotech on it at the time, and recently got myself
one of the figures, and bought the first set of DVD's which
turned out to be POO when I watched them all those years later.
(Feckin Americans ripped apart the Macross series dubbed it and
spliced it together to form robotech)

There was also Horizon channel before the super channel.

Yeah, had that experience too, went out and bought them and was left wondering how they seemed so much better when I was a kid.:(
