Loose play at the Sporting Emporium

I'm pretty new to poker but have played quite alot over the last 6 - 8 months and have a reasonable grasp of the game. Obviously I have a hell of a lot to learn. I spend most of my poker time online and have a policy of playing very tight and very aggressive and it seems to work quite well for me - I generally get enough callers with my big starting hands for the policy to pay off.

I've played live cash games in the Emporium several times in the last few months and used a similar policy, and have always gotten callers no matter if I fold 80% of the time and its paid off most of the time.

What I want to know is have I been lucky in the Emporium or is there an awful lot of loose play and degenerate gamblers in there. Obviously there are some very good players in there, who are best avoided but on a whole could the emporium be a soft touch for tight players?

yes, particularly watch out for the degenerates who like to have props bets on the flop texture

You could sit for the whole night and not play a hand waiting for Aces and still get action in there. "I'll give you a spin", "I know I'm behind" etc are commonplace. Just be prepared for being out draw when you are 80% fav preflop.

I played there for the first time the other night and my poker senses were on overdrive. I was practically drooling as I watched a steady stream of rich young drunks wandering into the place.

Unfortunately I was in a rush somewhere else and therefore played like a muppet and dropped 2 buy-ins before I left. But I can't wait to get back there when I'm in Dublin next...

I think El S's sig really explains the phenomenon quite well, possibly the best poker related one liner in history.

Loose? That isnt the word for it. Donkeys don't have a ****ing clue what they're doing. Anytime im there I plug in the ipod, play like a total rock and always come out with a big tank cos the gambling idiots will call with just about anything.

    J5 is the new AA.
    Q2 is the new KK.

Playing tight means nothing in the SE. You need to be prepared to accept a higher proportion of outdraws and bad beats than usual. In the long run good solid play will be rewarded.

I wish I could take the credit for it

I felt a bit like the young grasshopper sitting at the feet of Buddha and listening to him spout profound but simple truths....
