First General Meeting of Apartment Complex

Have been in a new apartment block for 3-4 months(as part of Affordable Housing) and have just been told the first meeting is in the local GAA club this coming Thursday evening.

How do these things normally work?. . have a couple of bones to pick with them (rubbish not being collected being a biggie).

    Any tips out there?

Tip- sit down and make a written list of the things that you wish to bring up at the meeting and then contact the company secretary and get him/her to put your items on the official agenda for the meeting. It saves having what can be important items lumped together in the "any-other-business" category at the end of the meeting.

If you want my opinion, you should concentrate on getting the structural issues done at the first meeting - i.e., getting together a decent board and making sure everyone understands how elections work, when they happen, etc. Also, go through how the next year's budget will be sorted out in laborious detail. And talk about the relationship with the management agent.

The other issues, you need to deal with them, but maybe this meeting isn't the place to go into all the details.

Remember to give support to people who take on the burden of helping run the management company.
