If you purchase a round the world ticket is it like limited to a certain amounts of flights, or does it depend on how much money one would actually spend on the ticket itself, just curious?

It depends on how much you want to pay. Generally an RtW ticket will at least cover a stop in Asia, Australia/NZ, a couple of stops in North and/or South America and home.

Obviously the more you spend the more stops you'll be able to make. Take a look at Trailfinders' website and you'll get a fair idea of how to go about it.

Will do, incidentally if you purchased a round the world ticket and missed a flight but had insurance would you be able to get another one with no extra cost or would you have to shell out more cash?

That would really depend on the fare rules of the different tickets. Each kind would have it's own restrictions in place.
