Bass project,advice needed

I recently bought a bass on adverts with the intention of restoring it with some old parts I had lying around. However, the guy who painted it did such a good job I've decided to give it a complete overhaul and want to get some decent parts together. I've got bridge and tuners sorted and now I need some advice on pickups. Can any one recommend a good set of p/j pickups? I have read numerous reviews on the different types and they all seem to have their good points but I'd like to hear firsthand from someone who's either upgraded theirs or bought a bass with a good set installed.
One other thing, will the quality of the pots affect the sound of the pickups? I intend to change these as well but do they need to match pickup out put or something? I'm quite capable of doing the actual work but the electrical theory is a bit beyond me. Any advice would be appreciated

Yes, pots will make a difference. If you get single coil pickups, get 250k pots, if you get humbuckers, get 500k pots. What sort of sound are you looking for, a vintage, warm bass sound or a modern, clear bass sound? What is your budget?

I was thinking of about 100- 150 euros for pickups. Ive been looking at a set of Bartolinis for 100 and I can get some Lindy Fralin's for about 150. I wouldn't go much more than that. As for sound, I kinda like the more vintage sound. I'm not a very technical player and mainly play classic rock and blues, purely as a hobby. My other basses are a mm sterling, a mim jazz and a rickenbacker copy and I find myself favouring the jazz sound over the others.
