Home Wireless Networking Problem

I have two XP computers wirelessly connected through my router. I have an external USB hard drive connected to the desktop and I made it available for sharing. Then I set up a workgroup and added both computers to it.

Now when I turn on my laptop and go and look around my workgroup in My Network Places I see the desktop but I can't explore it and I can't access the shared hard drive.

I have tried to access it from Start->Run as well by typing \\"destop ip"\"hard drive name" but that failed to.

I have a strange feeling I am idiotically missing something simple. Any ideas?

have you tried turning off all your firewalls?

Have you shared the actual drives instead of just enabling sharing?

    Try going to:

    \\computeriporname\$c

Where C is a drive letter, try entering the one of your external drive.
