    Hi Folks,

Just wondering if anyone here has been able to improve their posture via exercising their core muscles. My posture is quite poor and I would hope to improve it with some exercises. Who would be the best person to create a programe with this specific goal in mind? I would guess that its a little bit beyond that of my Gym instructor, perhaps a Chiropractor would do this?

    Dave

an osteopath would be better (PM if you interested in one based in Rathgar) that a chiro. A good Pilates instructor would be a good bet.

    Hi Guys,

Cheers for the info, much appreciated :-) My sister is going to a guy who I think is an osteopath and he has really helped her alot so I might go to him for a once off consultation. I think he might be in Rathgar Siochain, small world eh.

@amazingemmet just curious if you have suffered from poor posture yourself or you deal with it in a professional capacity?

You probably don't want to listen to me cos I'm really just thinking out loud here, BUT...

I would imagine your poor posture presents as you being hunched forward (presumably from sitting at a computer all day long) and with you shoulders rolled inwards too.

If that was the case then I'd be saying do upper back work to sort out the shoulder role, and lots of erector work to sort out the hunching. But again, thinking out loud with zero exp in the area.

Well I've trained as a gymnast and acrobat as well as a dancer and one of the key things we learn when doing the coaching qualifications is posture, as bad posture and alignment in gym will destroy your body in a very short time. Posture is generally easy to fix but it just takes a lot of concious effort to do so.

See it just points to you need to be concious about how you're sitting standing etc

hard to know if the osteopath is properly trained or a weekend warrior..... best looking for a good chiropractor by recommendation in your area and an alexander practitioner as well....

I saw an add once for a doctor / hypnotist who used hypnosis to correct posture. Of course it didnt do it directly it just took alot of the burden of being concious of your posture off you because it was moved to the sub-concious level.
