Swimming

I go to the gym 3 times a week and do my workout given by my instructer. (8 min bike warmup, 2000m on rower, 10 mins interval jog/run on treadmill and 10 mins fat burn on cross trainer, weights and core) He recommended that I should do some moderate exercise on alternate days so I have been swimming. Is this any good for weight loss or would I be better going for a walk? I want to lose approx a stone.

    Appreciate your advice.

as with most comparisons between different exercises, it all depends on how much effort you put into it.

    The advantages of walking include,
    - can be done anytime, just head out the door
    - weight bearing which is good for your bones
    - feel good factor of fresh air
    - can go with a friend and catch up on the craic
    advantages of swimming
    - you can really put some welly into it
    - will work upper body often neglected by other forms of cardioexercise
    - very gentle on your body, not weight bearing and no impact. It shouldn't inteerfer with other exercise you're doing.

Swimming is very good, you can wear goggles and go under the water too. Much enjoyment.

IMO swimming is far superior with regards to weight loss than walking. Of course your diet will dictate reaching your goals more so than anything.

I swim twice a day, morning before work 800m, after the gym in the evening 800m. Recommended.

Swimming is good for aerobic fitness, but I wouldnt' see it's much use in weight loss - if anything swimming makes you hungrier!!

I've found cardio stuff at the gym and especially running helps with weight loss.

I use swimming as a recovery from high intensity exercise.

A very fast walk for 30-50 mins before you eat is meant to be a good fat burner. Remember that weights also help you burn fat faster!

I would recommend swimming aswell, especially for the day in between training. It doesnt wear you out as much as going on the treadmill on an off day. But then again for your situation its probably best to do what you enjoy most, swimming, walking, jogging all burn fat in the end.
