Not a good combination let me tell you.

Spilled some wine on my macbook last night. I've taken the battery out and turned it upside down and placed in the hot press. Tried this morning to turn it on and i get a screen with a flashing question mark :(

Anyone got some advice? Any similar stories?

Personally I would have given it longer to dry out, I's say leave it another while

Have you tried booting from system disk? Although I'd leave it in the airing cupboard for a week anyway.

I tried it again this morning and after a few attempts i got it to boot up if connected directly to the mains. i tried it with the battery but i got the question mark thing again. I think the battery is fúcked.

You really should have given it a lot longer to dry, a few days at least. Turning it on so soon could cause even more damage.

    Was there much spillage?

let the battery dry well..you can do nothing else for the battery...

as for the machine itself, ideally you want to take everything out of the machine i.e. battery and HD out of the slot in battery bay, ram etc...(now for the bad bit) open it up if you can - wherever you see wine stains internally on the circuit board - go at it with cotton buds and boiled cold water, gingerly to get the crap off it. Then again with distilled water. Only go at the stained areas.

(Wine, juices etc. have sugars and dissolved minerals etc. that screw up electronics if left to dry out.)

then let that sucker really dry out well

have you tried cleaning the stain with some white wine? :P

Ah no all jokes aside.. i'd let it dry for another bit as everyone else has recommended. Although i done that and my laptop never came back to life.. may have been because of how old it was tho
