You had a long commute to and from work every day and it was having a strain on your personal and family life?

If you're talking about your current job, you've already posted many other reasons to leave it.

I think it depends on the commute and the interviewers own outlook on work/life ballance.
I think anything can be turned into a negetive... which is why I'm always nervous at interviews.

In my opinion yes it would be a perfectly valid reason to leave a job for the reasons you quoted. Your welfare and time spent with your family is more important than money...assuming you can get a job with less commuting strains.

Very strange question - of course it is. Anything which is having a strain on your pesonal and family life is a valid reason for YOU to leave YOUR job.

If you value your job more than your family and personal life, you wouldn't be using it as a reason to leave the job.

juanveron, I hope I'm not speaking out of step but you have startd quite a few threads on aspects professional, academic and fitness life. You appear to want to change things but are stuck in some sort of a rut. For most people I'm not a big fan of "life coaching" but have you considered it for yourself. Working with some sort of an expert in this sort of thing might help you figure things out? After all on boards we're all just a bunch of amateurs with a few spare minutes to spend surfing the interweb?

If it was having a strain on the rest of your life then of course it is a valid reason to quit! Myself I sometimes enjoy the commute if it is hassle free and I can read a book or so while doing it.

Depends who the reason is for... is it to justify it to yourself?

You don't need to give your employer a valid reason.

I think the OP needs to be far more clear with their questions.

I think that a long commute that was placing strain on someone is a very good reason to change job. From the original question it isn't clear if the means to change job or to quit.

I've left a position before because I'd moved house and the commute was a pain. Of course the fact I hated my boss helped with the decision....but in interviews etc I refer to having moved house and the commute becoming impractical. It's not been a problem so far.

Tell them you have to leave to look after a sick relative.

Definately. Work to Live. Don't Live to work. Better to take a paycut and be happy, rather than be miserable. Start doing the things you want to do now rather than leaving then for another day. Make a list of objectives in your life and start working towards then. Ever little step helps.

What?! I hate this attitude. I don't understand why people need to lie about this kind of stuff when they have a perfectly valid reason that just so happens to be true as well.

Ah, sorry about that, didn't really see anything to indicate that it was a joke

Oh and I'm pretty familiar with veron's postings! There was a good quality thread on the fitness forum a while back :D
