ok portugal's not really the med but it's got some cracking beaches in the Algarve, nicest ones I've ever been to. Corsica and Sardinia are supposed to have some amazing ones too. South of France, around St Tropez and stuff has some really amazing little beaches, calm blue ocean etc. I'm sure Spain has great ones too but I've only been to the really developed ones there.

Thanks, have you been to the Eastern Med to know what the beaches there are like? Eg Turkey, Cyprus, Greece?

Best beaches, I've seen on the Med have been in northern part of Minorca. You will need a car and will have to hike/climb about an other hour after you dump the car to reach some of them. After all the effort you'll be awarded with beautiful deserted beaches, and crystal clear water. Not that easy to find in the Mediterranean during the peak July/August season.

greece has FANTASTIC places mate. just try to avoid the crouds....

google for lefkada, kefallonia, halkidiki, santorini and you will understand what i mean

the best way to get to "virgin" beaches is by sailing.... have a look here: http://www.sailingGR.eu

those guys have some pictures also posted ;)

I was in Praia da Rocha in the Algarve a few years ago. Nicest beaches I've seen.
