Emergency Tax

I'm a student. I started a job early in the summer which I left after 3 weeks, no problems there. I started a new job the following week. I only got the chance to send my P45 to my new job yesterday so they wouldn't have had time to sort out my tax credits by the time I got my first wage today.

Last week I did 40 hours plus another 12 hours overtime. I get €9.25 an hour aswell as time and a half overtime. That comes out at 40 + 12 + 6 = 58 hours by 9.25 = €536.50. Anyway, I got paid today and there was exactly €436.09 put into my account.

Just wondering if it's possible to work out how much I've been taxed/should have been taxed? Will I get the tax back in my next wage or do I have to contact revenue?

    Thanks in advance.

That's spot on. You should have got a payslip from them but look at the attachment and you will see what your payslip looks like. As soon as your employer gets your P45 and sets you back to a normal basis you should get a tax refund from the employer. The only time this wouldn't happen is if the employer decides to withhold the refund.

Great work, cheers. That's put my mind to rest.

No problem. Glad to be of assistance. Just try and make sure you get a payslip from them every week as it is a very basic entitlement. At least you'll know what the craic is that way.
