Folks, I've no experience whatsoever of Vista but very well up on XP PRO. What complications could arise from adding a Vista machine to my domain/network?

Initial reports of Vista were mixed at best. I'm sticking with XP pro on my network for a while yet until I see other folks using it without too much problems.

We've around 1000+ desktops on our network, and we've put an embargo on Vista, but that's primarily due to application incompatibility. Enterprise AV, Finance system and a host of others have issues with Vista.

I've been using Vista as my desktop for about a month though, and I've had no issues at all. As for a network wide roll-out... late 2008... maybe.

I don't think it'll cause any issues with the rest of the network, but whether the machine will respond well to logon scripts and group policy is another matter.

I'd use a virtual server (windows Virtual PC/Server or VMware, all are free) to install Vista and see how it responds to being dumped on your domain. Work out all of the kinks before you even consider using it as a production OS for users on the network.

We've about 2000 machines, 40/60 desktop/laptop. We're looking at a pilot rollout of Vista late this year, with a full rollout early next year. But then we have a Global IT team who will do the bulk of the compatibility testing for us and then supply us with a base image. So that's handy :)

An awful lot of hardware lacks vista drivers at this time, and some existing drivers are problematic.
I've had a lot of irritating problems after upgrading one laptop. I would certainly advise against installing it on a whole network until the issues with it are ironed out.
