Results and getting into a masters

    Hi there,

I applied to two computing science masters in TCD, and have been given conditional acceptance letters, the condition being I attain a 60% average in my final year results. Unfortunately, I fell 3% short of this in my finals, so this does mean I'm basically out of the running, or is there anything I can do to support my application at this point?

Any suggestions would be much appreciated

    Thanks

Contact the course director / responsible person in the relevant department ASAP. They may answer you, they may ask for further information, or they may refer you back to the Graduate Studies Office. In any event, it's no harm to ask.

I wouldn't give up hope. If they have a space available they'll probably give it to you because of the $$$. As xeducat says, ring up and try get in touch with some of the people in charge.

Ok thanks for your responses, I have the name of the executive officer for the course? Would she be the person to contact? I've already been in contact with the directors before, so I don't want to seem like I'm hassling them!! :-)

I'd go straight for course directors at this time of year, and just cc the executive officer to be safe - it's their decision, and they may disappear on holidays in the near future. It's quite common practice so they shouldn't mind.
If you got 60+ in any part of your degree that's relevant to the Masters courses, it would be good to point that out in your e-mail. As others have said, unless the courses are full, they're unlikely to rule you out for your grade.

Ah good stuff, there was nothing particularly relevant to the masters that i did this year. I wouldn't mind but I put a good bit of work in and we got hammered (as in marked hard, not drunk :-)) in exams.. oh well... I'd so love to go to trinity :-)
