Is their anywhere in the Dublin region that I could get a set of pre-Euroband reg. plates (the ones from 1987 to 1991), with similar font to those old reg. plates? Thanks.

Hmm, Cork seems a bit far to go for reg. plates.

    Pictures would be good though.

If you are running a pre 91 vehicle you can use silver on black plates quite legally availible from any good motorfactors.

    Can you??

I thought it was only pre 73 for silver on black?

I'm really on the look out for standard black on white plates.

I thought silver on black was only for pre-'87.

I'll check the details later, but it appears a black on white retro-reflective plate would do you as the letters need to be at least 81mm high.

    Specs are here

I'm off to get my plates and I'll post something back later.

To the OP, in order to work some figures out in relation to what will fit on the plate would you mind answering the following?

Are you looking for a plastic plate or a pressed metal one?
How many letters do you need for the county. One or two?
How many digits is the serial?
Are there any figures "1" or "I" in the serial. If so, how many.

I got a pressed pair of plates today, but they are in 3½" high letters (89mm). With these sorts of letters, you rapidly start to run out of room past 6 digits!

The flash is on in the first photo, so the rear doesn't look as red as it actually is. (Mind you, the bottom one doesn't really show how red it actually is either!)

Plastic plates; basically what I'm after are like the ones on that Ascona in the other thread:

My reg. is a Dublin reg. & has 5 digits after the 'D'.

    No you can't. Try pre-87.

I did see plain white reflective plastic blanks at Europlates (01-825 1804), they are on the R154 Trim Road, about a mile up from the Black Bull junction of the N3 just after Dunboyne, Co. Meath. Give them a call so they have time to make it and call them again to check that it's ready.

I was asking about dimensions to see if everything would fit on a standard UK blank front plate, which it would. The only technical issue with the current UK font is it is a bit short (by 2mm) and the stroke and width is a bit thicker (by 2mm for each), but it more than complies with the NCT standards which are based on the post-91 character dimensions.

It should be straightforward to get hold of reflective white plastic blank and get a sign shop to make the lettering the correct size and printed and cut.

If you can't be bothered running around, I may be able to get you one posted from the UK.

    HTH,
    Rich
