    1. Running Duke3D on a modern machine.

    What you shall need:
All you need is the Duke3D.grp file, for each port.
Id recommend u get the grp for the Atomic Edition 1.5.

    > Click Here to Download the Shareware GRP file <

    title2.png
    JFDuke 3D
This is the ultimate port for Windows and Linux which has
He also has a Windows port for Shadow Warrior here

    eduke32_classic.png
    Eduke 32
This Win32 port was designed with Mods in mind.
It adds lots of additional features to Duke3D, which allows modders to create more advance mods for Duke3D.

    logo1.gif
    Duke_w32/ Rancid Meat Port
Along with xduke, its the preffered port of the Online Multiplayer Community => Dukester X
    Very efficent.

    X Duke
This was the most used port in the Dukester X community in 2006.
Based on Rancidmeat, its most efficent port available for windows.
It is true to the original DOS version

    Icculus

This is a multiplatform port (Win, Lin, Mac, etc) still in development
Also has multiplatform ports for other games.

Dont forget Dosbox for a true emulated Dos experience.

The HRP - High Resolution Pack is a complete update for the Graphics in Duke3D.
It is optimized for Open GL ports such as JonoF's and Eduke32.

It feautres 32-bit True Colour textures, and replaces 2D sprites with 3D models.

Nightfright has monthly updates for the HRP on his site
    http://hrpupdate.duke4.net

He also has mods such as SD_Duke, which adds more gore, debris, explosions.
And the XXX Pack which lets you see a bit more flesh on the females!

To install any updates/mods/maphacks just copy the zip files into:
    Duke 3D Dir\autoload\duke3d.grp
Duke 3D.grp is actually the name of a folder in this case.

Note: When updating SD_Duke however, just extract the RAR to the main Duke 3D dir.
Otherwise when you run the Eduke32 shorcut it will always load that mod.
The HRP already has a 2nd shortcut for SD_Duke in the start menu.

    Eye candy.....

    duke3d_dx9_1april06.jpg

Other addons on that page are the XXX Pack..... :p

    And the Gorey Duke_SD mod....

Never played it on the pc but I have Duke Nukem 3d playstation version, class game. Nearly laughed myself to death playing it. I would support a forum.

So a forum for a series with 1 game over 10 years old and another which has become the biggest piece of vapourware/joke in videogaming history.

Doesn't need its own subforum, -1.

True i suppose, if DNF is released within our lifetimes, then it should deserve its own sub forum!

There has being 7 Duke Nukem games released remember:

    Duke Nukem 1,2, & 3D,
    Duke Nukem Manhattan Project
and Duke Nukem: Time To Kill

edit: Duke Nukem: Land of The Babes
    Duke Nukem: Zero Hour

The playstation version got really bad reviews.
Id recommend playing it again on the pc, now that the HRP pack has being released.

I dont think anything has being released for Caribbean yet.
It might work with the sprites used from the original Duke3D in Carribean, but obviously not with the other sprites in that game.

That would depend on the Con files, and the tile numbers.

There may be a mod to do it out there.

I can get it to work to a point, but Duke's guns are silent - or near as dammit, though the monsters guns are OK.

OK, fixed it by taking the gun sounds from DC User.con and adding to Carribean User.con.

    Good man!
Will do until the HRP pack for it is released.

Do you have any mods/Total conversions you would like to recommend for the thread?
    Preferably new ones.

Starship Troupers TC and Platoon TC would be my top 2 i think.

Any recommendations on which openGL port to use - JonoF's or Eduke32? I will try this during the weekend if I can.

I also didn't realise there were addons for Duke Nukem 3D although I did hear about a "Plutonium Pack". Back in 1996, I did complete the vanilla Duke Nukem - nice to see an update. 640x480 was playable back then on a p120 - where as Quake - not a hope until those Voodoo 1 cards became available - although I did try! :)

Era try both JFDuke and EDuke32.
The HRP has eduke32 included with it, i just noticed there.

Give JF's port a bash too sure.

Theres loads of unofficial mods out for Duke3D too.

Heres an old site for total conversions:

This site has loads of banners to other duke related sites,
plus a good TC Reviews section.

    Hey RetroGamer,
I was looking through the Duke Nukem's links - one went to a guy (MarkMcWane) who has re-done the midi music to mp3 - listening to it now and it's done really well. He also re-worked the Blood midi music! Try it out! I must at least listen to the opening moody music to see how it came out.

Edit: Man, that guy likes his music:- I quote
"My collection now spans 150 + GB of harddrive space, and encompasses over 35,000 songs, streamed at home via a dedicated multimedia PC, which resides in my Home Theater rack of components. Click here to check out my current collection in PDF format!"

And I did.... it spanned over 620 pages! Ha ha ha! Guess you'd need two 500Gb stand-alone ethernet wireless drives standing up by the bookshelf! :D Cheap enough anyhow - the music would go well with Mame and the stack of ebooks and retro emags. :)

Thanks CorkProducer - nice links. Read a bit and eduke is getting the edge in recommendations from the hrupdate's link page. Anyway, we're all so spoiled for choice (pity about the time eh?)

    Okay lads.
Ive updated Post #2 with instructuons on how to install Nightfrights updates and mods for the HRP pack.

Be sure to install his HRP Update v3.2.

The HRP Pack 3.0 comes with the older version of SD_Duke -> v1.1 and old maphacks.

Be sure to update SD_Duke to version 1.2 for much improved explosions and debris....

And the maphacks to fix errors in the placement of objects in the original duke episodes.
