I read somewhere that its better to go to the Gym in the mornings rather then the evening as one will brun stored fat more easily rather then Carbs one ate during the day.

Can one give me an outline on what I should do in the gym in the morning.
I would have about an hour so would like to divide it 20/40 in favour of weights. Toning up and weight loss would be my goals. The idea of running hours on end in the gym doesnt appeal to me but I quite like lifiting weights.

Also food. Should i eat before? Id much prefer to just get up, go out to the gym come home and have breakfast, wheetabix, fruit, a bit of tuna for protein.

    Is this ok?

I've found that I just can't lift in the morning. I end up shifting about 20% less if I try to do this kind of workout fasted so I tend to either swim or run in the morning. I lift weights and cycle in the evening.

I love a run first thing in the morning. The theory is that if you keep the intensity low (<70% MHR) and fasted (i.e. before breakfast) a high proportion of the energy required for running come from fat. There is a general concensus on that much but there are different ideas on other factors. For example, some people say this run should never be longer than an hour or there is a serious risk of catabolism. Other people say taking a couple of grams of BCAA's before and after training will prevent this.

I think your glycone levels are depleted overnight, so some reckon you will burn fat more when doing cardio with low glycone levels. But when lifting weights you want maximum energy to enable you to lift, I have tried lifting in the morning and cannot do much.

I do 50 pressups in the morning, eat, then cycle 20-25mins. Lately I have been only doing maybe 2 exercises a day, and in the morning will do lower weights of these so I can get 8-12 reps in. Then do them again in the evening with proper weights.

I can lift fook all in the morning. was shocked yesterday when my usual 100kg reps on bench were reduced to 80kg struggles. so yeah Id say about 20% less is right.

It depends on the person, I used to lift very heavy in the mornings and then do my cardio in the evening. (or the other half of my split if it was back or legs day).

Tried swapping it about but found both cardio and lifting suffered as a result.

Iirc its takes a couple of hours for your cns to wake up properly before you do so would be better saving the weights for later in the day if your doing intense work

    OK I get ya.

So more cardio during the morning while weights would be better in the evening.
    Makes sense.
Still though for weight loss is a morning workout good?

I find that when I want to train in the morning I need to get up one hour before I hit the gym and get carbs into me to see me through. Not much of a difference to be honest.

When I'm in college, say I have class at 11, I'd usually get up at 9.30 normally, if I'm hitting the gym it's 8.15-8.30.

    p.s I'm a student so 8.30 is my 6am!!

Pre breakfast cardio if you want to lose the spare tyre but I'd generally keep the weight lifting till the afternoon or evening.

Would it be too much to do them both in the one day? Like one am the other pm??

This morning I did some military presses, did 9 instead of my usual 12-13 at the same weight.

I can do 50-55 pressups in the morning, 75 later on.

In another thread I was suggesting getting up, eating and sleeping again, getting up when the food is being digested and do the workout. Like having sandwiches waiting at your bed, or even a thermos of porridge!, wake up half asleep, down it in one, back to sleep and up 60-90mins later full of beans
