Handbags & Gladrags is a charity initiative founded in 2003 by friends of Sarah Henry, who was lost to cancer. Sarah was 23 years of age.

Her illness, Ewing’s sarcoma, affects children and young adults between the ages of 8 and 25. It is one of the most aggressive forms of cancer known. Today, hundreds of young people in Ireland, of all ages, are suffering from this and many other forms of cancer.

Sarah’s passion for fashion and all things bright and beautiful inspired the first Handbags & Gladrags: Carnival Night in June 2003. Held in the Royal Hospital Kilmainham, the night raised over €30,000, and much needed publicity, for cancer research.

This year, we are committed to raising over €200,000 for Our Lady's Hospital for Sick Children in Crumlin. The funds will help form the Seed Capital for a brand new worldwide Children’s Cancer Research Initiative in association with the Royal College of Surgeons, Dublin. With leading oncologists from all over the world signed up to participate in this ground breaking research, this initiative is expected to deliver vital information about the causes of cancer which will allow the medics to save young lives.
The Handbags & Gladrags: Paddy Power Poker Classic Event at The Sporting Emporium, Anne’s Lane will take place on Saturday 21st July.
The evening will kick off at 5.00pm with registration and gaming to begin at 6.00pm sharp. In the professional care of the Sporting Emporium 130 players will compete for a total of prize pool of €12,000 sponsored by Paddy Power Bookmakers. During the evening contestants will be well looked after by The Sporting Emporium’s staff while the tables are manned by professional croupiers and observed by independent inspectors. Tickets will be on sale through Donation Point at www.donationpoint.ie and www.handbagsandgladrags.ie as well as through links at www.paddypower.com

The Handbags & Gladrags : Mardi Gras will take place on Friday, July 13th 2007 in the Royal Hospital Kilmainham. The evening will be a super-sexy, sassy, and stylish carnival party with a virtual cornucopia of entertainment, and a guest list of key opinion formers from the worlds of fashion, design, music and film. This night is not to be missed!
With your help, Handbags & Gladrags can make a considerable contribution to helping those affected by this disease. Any other details can be found at www.handbagsandgladrags.ie.

I will definitely be supporting this event.

I myself also suffered from Ewings Sarcoma and through this I ironically began playing poker. I will also be donating money to the Handbags and Gladrags charity and presenting it to them on the night. Also any monies ( if I win any LOL ) I win, on the night will also be donating 50% of it to them as well.

I really encourage people to get behind this event as any possible means of setting up a Cancer Research Inititave would be a major step in the direction of preventing such disease's. This will be really helpful to anyone affected by this illness, including providing support for their families. This will also allow the oncologists and medics to come up with new groundbreaking treatments to save young lives.

    Thanks a million

    Alan

ok u lucky devils, I've bought a ticket, thanks to the pppspecial hard sell tactics.
ala the WSOP I've decided to sell 10% of my action to boards members. No member can buy more than 2% at 3 euro per cent. You can transfer the funds to my pokerstars account named Doc Farrell.

You're all very lucky people to have such a generous guy like me around.

(p.s. I have actually bought a ticket and 5 of you can buy 2% of it for 6 euro each. I also accept alcohol at one pint per cent).

    :D

This is an outrage! I can't believe you haven't taken up this marvellous offer!

In light of the deadening silence I've decided to increase the percentage available to 100%!

However be warned that although its 72% likely that I will win this outright I may donate 'some' of my winnings on the night. This will depend on my mood and general sobriety.

So there you have it, a genuine win-win situation, only one previous owner, mint condition, jump on the bandwagon while you still have a chance.

Rounders123 I'm going to put you down for 1% coz I know you're good for it.

    oh, and bump. :D

(to anyone reading this from the charity, this is all tongue in cheek of course)

edit: if someone will get this t-shirt made up I will even wear it on the night!

ok, finally, I've found a sucker, i mean a distinguished card player to sponsor my night. Messyjay has taken 1% of the action. Now all I need are 99 other chumps, i mean fine fellows, to take a 1% slice.

Now, i fully expect all this action to be snapped up any day now so you would be better to jump at the chance before it's too late!

3 dollars per 1% and you can't buy more than 5% coz its just a bit of fun and also its likely the money will be given away when i win.

just start donating the money to my pokerstars account whenever your little fingers are ready, the account name is Doc Farrell.

(oh, the silence, you're killing me here!)

p.s. i've already paid for the ticket so all i'm doing is bumping this thread longwindedly.

Len! i know you're good for 3 euro! oh the humanity!

Rounders123 I'm going to put you down for 1% coz I know you're good for it.

    oh, and bump. :D

Only seen this now!. 1% go on then i will give it to you next time i see you and 100% of my winnings can go to the charity because thats the kind of guy i am. I would have made it 5% but ive seen you at the precipice one too many times last nite:p
Hope you learned a thing or two about table chit chat!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,882 ✭✭✭Doc Farrell

ty Aidan, you're a decent skin, as i understand the phrase to be.

make it 2% and I won't tell anyone how drunk you got last night.

oops! too late 1% it is. the ball is officially rolling!

    edit:

regarding being too close to the precipice i see that there is only one man who i can turn to at this time of crisis! i think you know who that man is: the foe of all tree hugging hippies everywhere, one of the finest militarists in all Hollywood. (play the audio coz the video takes ages)

ok, fbd insurance is sponsoring my entire entry,
no, hang on, i'll start again, FatBoyDim is taking 5% so with rounders123 and MessyJay that makes it 7% of pure gold gone.
Due to the phenomenal demand I've decided to reduce the available percentage from 100% back down to the original 10%.
So you have until next weekend to transfer funds from your Swiss Tony bank accounts to my party poker account. 3 euro and you now can't buy more than 1%. only three seats remaining!
    (and also, bump)

Right Mr and Mrs Dim are coming to this and she's bringing her spatula.

Just to let you know that the booking system is playing up a little on the H&G site if you try to book two tickets it shows up as three. A little glich that may need sorting out. I just went throught and booked two individual tickets - so sorted.

    See you and Dave there.

    Ps Pint in keoghs Fatboydim?
Myself and Mrs Dim can have a discussion on how obvious it is that Women poker players are soooo much better thank the Men folk, while yourself and Martin grumble up at the bar:D :D:D .

    Hi,

Is it true you can purchase a ticket at the sporting emporium now, not just through the website ?

    Thanks

I was just wondering how many runners have pre-registered.

I've unfortunately just heard that the tourney is postponed until later in the year. I got a call from Chris Hill who said money would be credited back etc. But would appreciate some confirmation on here from the SE. Or indeed if others have had this phonecall. As I think I only got the call because of living in Westport and coming down for it.

    Hi All,

We regret to inform you that unfortunately the rumours are correct, The Handbags and Gladrags Charity Poker Tournament has been postponed. October is being discussed as a possible month for holding this Tournament but in the mean time anybody that has purchased a ticket and has not yet heard anything back you can contact Virginie on 01 284 9568.

It was great to see such support from a lot of you towards this Tournament and I hope you are not put off from playing it when it actually takes place.

The Poker room will now be open as usual for the €75 Double Chance with Scalp Tournament and Cash games.

    Thanks, Alex.
