    hello all,

I have a brother who's 25 and has harboured a love a bikes forever. His factory job is driving him nuts and I know he'd love to get involved in the bike trade.

Any pointers as to how he could get involved? Is an apprenticeship out of the question at his age?

mmmm, he could still do an apprenticeship, but it's gonna be hard to take a big hit on the money front...............and some shops are struggling at the mo to make ends meet.........

First though, look up courses - iirc, there's a course you can do in Bolton Street on Motorcycle mechanics - I'm not sure if it's full time or part time........then decide.

Me? Years ago I chucked my factory job after 5 yrs and went to the UK to a full time college - Soundwell College in Bristol, to do a BTech in motorcycle engineering - and yes, everyone thought I was nuts too..............loved it though ! Best thing I ever did.

There's another college doing full time courses too - Tiverton in Devon (v.good) and Merton College in London............all it takes is dedication :D

You don't want to acknowledge that as truth because, deep down in places you don't talk about at the Green Party, you want me on that road, you need me on that road. We use words like freedom, enjoyment, sport and community. We use these words as the backbone of a life spent instilling those values in our families and loved ones. You use them as a punch line. I have neither the time nor the inclination to explain myself to a man who rises and sleeps under the tax revenue and the very freedom to spend it that I provide, and then questions the manner in which I provide it. I would rather you just said "thank you" and went on your way. Otherwise I suggest you pick up a bus pass and get the ********* ********* off the road”

DIT Bolton street run a Motorcycle Technicain course every october thru to june. It's a 3 year course, 2 evenings a week and it will give all the qulifications you need to work here or abroad. There is a good bit of theory involved as well as hands on practical assignments. From time to time the lecturer has news of jobs going in the trade which is also handy. 12 of us have just finished up our first year, tough enough going what with holding down full time jobs but well worth it I think!!
