building my own m4

    fellow airsofters,

i am thinking about building my own m4. i have never undertaken this before so i would like your suggestions.

    here is the outline
    all metal m4 where possible
g&p bushmaster front end with floating barrel with ris grip
    g&g sopmod stock
    peq battery box

now here is the sticky bit

i could buy a metal body, full mechbox (for reliability and sub 1j output), inner barrell, hopup etc and wing it or i could buy a metal aeg from SRC for 170 dollars (as in a full m4) or one of the ones from RSOV and just replace front end and stock.

    concerns
is it fair to take one m4 from supplier 'A' and hope that the front end will fit? i know they are supossed to but will they?

anyone ever try anything like this before or am i asking for a shedload of reliability problems?

I know i could go for a top end mechbox, but i am looking for price/reliability, ..any recommendations?

any opinion on anyone who has modified this much greatfully received.

not sure on the fitting of parts, but i'd imagine buying the SRC one and changing the front end/stock would work out cheaper, building just a gearbox from scratch could cost in excess of 150euro depending on parts used...

plus you could then sell off the original parts from the the SRC to get some money back on your costs, or just keep them to change around if you get bored.

I asked Zero One about fitting a G&P M4 front end to my ICS CQB; they said it was possible but a one way process and involved a bit of butchery -would be a bit awkward to say the least.
I was recommended to specifically stick with ICS parts. ICS are a bit freaky though with compatibility.
Dunno if that’s any help but good luck!

you may want to edit that link Mark, it seems to log me into your account when I click on it.

EDIT: what the hell? how did that happen?! I was referring to mark's post after(?) this one.

The S-system forend actually has the weaver rail that it should connect onto built into it. On the Body(the plastic one) there isn't a rail theres just a place for the forend to screw into... but on the metal body theres a rail built into it so i cant connect the forend to it... was that too confusing?
And Keith told me that it WOULD fit so he will be getting an Email too.

Also (sorry to hijack the thread) does anyone know if the troy style silencer on rsov should fit a left hand thread, it came with one end that fits a right hand one and two caps( no thread just a smooth exit for the bb to leave). I think it should have come with a left hand threaded fitting and a right hand one. Sorry if thats confusing too...
