I want to get NTL/Chorus digital. mmds is the only possible delivery method due to were I live. I want to pay for one subscription but manually split the signal myself for other rooms. Can someone give me advice on the equipment and how I should go about doing it? Any help is much appreciated.

To split the feed you need a good quality coax splitter. From Maplins, or eBay. Once the feed is split, because you're on MMDS and not true cable, you'll need a specific receiver. However, legality of this receiver is disputed and so it's best not to discuss it here. Wouldn't be surprised if this thread is now locked.

The aerial needs to get power, which is why you have a funny looking power source behinf your TV, which probably has "aerial" and "TV" marked on it. Where ever you want the splitter, you will need one which will allow the power to pass through.

When you decide that you want to move your MMDS box to the other location, you should probably leave the power block where it is, and get a separate power cable for the MMDS box. If you decide to move it, you'll have to switch the splitter around etc.

End of the day, since you have to have an activated box from Chorus to get the MMDS, there's nothing illegal about putting in the splitter so that you can move the box around between rooms (no need for the padlock)

Sorry, maybe I misread the OP.. I thought he was wanting to split the feed to watch TV in more than one room at the same time? If not and he intends on taking the STB from room to room as and when, then I see no reason why this would be illegal nor against the cable ops Ts & Cs..

MMDS is not like cable, you do not get analog signals + digital, on MMDS there is only digital. You need a second sub if you want to simultaneously watch different shows in separate rooms ,or record one show while you watch another.

Yeah. It's pretty much like asking how to split the signal from a satellite feed.

It's not as a bad as that, you can split it (my install has 2 boxes & there is a 4 way splitter installed) but you will see some signal loss, depending on the quality of the splitter. Also have to turn off the PSU in one of the boxes, since they are in parallel & only one PSU needed to power the antenna downconverter electronics.

From what -> 5h4mr0(k <- says "move your MMDS box to the other location, you should probably leave the power block where it is" does this mean that you could use an inline power supply for the downcoverter and then connect the coax into a splitter and from this splitter then into say two digital receivers from ch0rus where you can then watch two different channels?

Not remotely like trying to split a satellite signal, but entirely like splitting a weak digital cable signal. You may need a cable amplifier to feed more than 2 outlets, or if the cable is very long.

Get a amplifier/distribution kit form maplin.

If you've only one stb then you'll be dragging it around to all the outlets,

you can use a dvbT for none encrypted channels RTE1/2,,, i'm sure it's possibly illegal to watch these channels on the mmds feed too though....

I remember somewhere I once read about making the power inserter from component, rf coupling or something.. has anyone ever done this? I guess it's just easier to buy the power inserter.
