Right lads, ages ago, on the Vodafone websit I joined up to text alerts for Galway GAA and Celtic Football club. Which was grand, had no problems with it. However with the Celtic text alert, as well as result updates that only cost 13c they used to send me a question on Celtic every week that would put me into a draw to win something. Anyway I got sick of the Celtic alerts and cancelled them which worked. But I continued to get the question every week from a 57252 number and soon I noticed this was costing money with every message. Unlike the text alert is costs a lot more than than normal 13 cent.

Changing my number is a last resort, as I have a really handy number. So does anyone know of any ways to get out of this other than texting stop, as that does not work. **** Vodafone anyway, I got this off there web alerts. Last time I use them. I already used the search function here, but couldnt find much help on it. Any help appreciated

    - try texting stop
    - login to "my vodafone" on their website and see if there's an option
    - call/email customer care and ask them to help you unsub.

if they don't respond to stop they're breaking the law. hopefully you saved the first text you sent saying it because you should get refunded from that point on

AFAIK that's not a Vodafone shortcode, it's zamano isnt' it? The regtel link from RUU should tell you what company is texting you. Give them a buzz and ask them 1) to unsubscribe you and 2) where did they get your number from. If they can't advise you of when you signed up to the service then you should be able to try get a refund for the texts too (although it could be tricky!)

Stop will not work with Zamano. They will just ignore it although you may be able to stop them charging you by phoning them. You will however not be told how you subscribed and as a matter of policy they do not issue refunds.

text the word "stop" to the number you are receiving the texts from, in this case 57252

oh but it kinda is. Zamano can't send their spam texts without the cooperation of the networks and in exchange vodafone and the other keep about 20% of the profits. Although the networks will try to get you to contact the content providers first, if you are unsuccessful in getting a refund from gangsters like Zamano they will usually refund you if you complain enough. They will however call it a "gesture of goodwill" as it is as you say Zamano that should issue the refund.
However there is a catch. A network will only give you a "goodwill" refund if they can see from their records that you didn't subscribe e.g. if Zamano received no initial text then their sending reverse charge texts is totally illegal. and they also expect you to try Zamano first although they are aware that they rarely refund.

I rang zamano for a vodafone customer the other day and requested a conplete refund for all money debitedfrom a customers account and low and behold the customer was given a complete refund for everything. The customer never signed up-which was verified by vodafone and when zamano sent her messages it was as a web address with no contact/opt out options(is this not against the law or COMREG/REGTEL?), the customer was at the end of her thether as she had a class 087 number(easy to remember and didn want to change) as she didnt get any info who they were coming from she had no way of stopping them. I saw this myself! rang vf, they said it was zamano and gave me the number and within three weeks she had a cheque!:):) ring the company up and look for a refund.

PS forgot to say my collegue rang vf in FEB and found out who was sending the texts and got the shortcut from vf and sent "Stop" but they expected "STOP" for opt out- what a shambles!!!!;)
