Slow Box - Anyone else?

    Hi all,

Got a new sky connection about a year ago - got a shiny new thomson box, the newer curvey model. All has been very well indeed, up to about two/three weeks ago.

Since then, the box has become damnably slow. Hitting the 'tv guide' key results in a 3-4 second wait before the blue screen appears. Selecting a channel within the guide results in another delay while the box finds a picture - often this delay can be of the order of a few seconds also. We've done the turning off and waiting bit, &c.

My question is - Is this normal? A result of a system upgrade? Just need to ask before I spend the weekend on hold. . .

    Sky System details as follows:

    Manufacturer - Thomson
    Model # - 121_309
    Version - 4e0901
    OPSys - 1.2S4FH
    EPG - 3.5.3

Any help at all would be appreciated.

Have you tried changing the batteries in your remote?

os and epg seem up to date, some older boxes do show problems handling newer updates but unlikely in case of newer box like yours.

I have one nearly dead old box somewhere that exhibits similar problems along with a few more that I think are due to failing power supply or overheating, not worth repairing. I think Thomson took over Grundig which have been noted for power supply problems. Upgrade kits are available.

I doubt it is the remote as my other digiboxes display a warning message when remote batteries are getting low.

If it was nearly a year ago I suspect you should get on to them before your 1 year warranty runs out.
