Ringing to an English mobile answering service

Have to ring someone in London and would really rather not talk to them but just leave a message.

Here you can just add 5 after the mobile prefix - eg 087(5) then the rest of the number to get put straight through to the voicemail.

Anyone know if the same is possible with English mobiles. I presume it is. I'm not sure which bit of the number is the mobile prefix and which is the actual number. Do all mobiles in England start with 07? (I know I have to drop the 0 to call from here)

The first 4 digits are the mobile prefix, i.e. 07xx, but AFAIK what you are trying to do isn't possible with UK mobiles. They work more like mobiles on the 3 network here in Ireland where all users dial the same number to pick up their voicemail.

Ah well thanks the quick reply.

Looks like I'll just have to have that awkward conversation after all.

    :o
